Hey everyone I've got 10 weeks to go and me and the hubby finally settled on the name Amber but no one in my family really seems to like it very much!

What are your views? Or any alternatives you think I may like! I'm trying for something not too popular. Thanks :)

Don't hear of many being born these days, and still a lovely name, so I say it's a goodun!

minipie · 25/02/2014 18:44

I quite like it, it's a bit retro (90s supermodel association perhaps?) but not in a bad way.

Other names you might possibly like if you like Amber (though it's in a category of its own in some ways):

Holly
Freya
India
Robyn
Lauren
Tessa
Cara
Jade
Poppy
Naomi
Seren

Amber was my girls name when I had DS, even although he is now 8 I still like it.

MrsRV · 25/02/2014 18:22

NinjaCow · 25/02/2014 18:00

Love it, it sounds a cheerful, pretty happy type of name iyswim.

rockybalboa · 25/02/2014 17:53

Love it. Bollocks to what your family think.

MummyGreen11 · 25/02/2014 17:50

Lovely Name, not common at all! :)

It will take her through all ages too!

EggInABap · 25/02/2014 17:02

I know 7 Ambers, 3 of which are in DC1's year 2 class and 1 in DC2's reception class. Others are friends children. Very common round here! Love the name though.

Mireio · 25/02/2014 16:49

Unfortunately I don't really like it, but mainly because of personal associations. I know a 23 year old Amber who isn't a very nice person. Also I think in America it's considered to be one of those 80s ditzy cheerleader names (like Britney, Heather, Courtney), so that's also the image I get from it.

Theonlyoneiknow · 25/02/2014 16:04

I really like it, was on our shortlist for DD.

I don't know anyone called Amber

manicinsomniac · 25/02/2014 15:25

I really like it. I've taught 3 in 7 years so not that common. They are now 18, 16 and 10.

bootsycollins · 25/02/2014 10:39

I'm not keen, sorry. But we're very much in the minority on this thread! Smile

Bagoffrogs · 24/02/2014 19:33

Love it! Should I ever lose the plot enough to consider having a third, this would be top of my list.

SirChenjin · 24/02/2014 19:20

Not keen, sorry - it's one of 'those' names round here unfortunately.

jellybeans · 24/02/2014 19:17
