Berlin for a girls name!?

We are expecting twin girls in July and are obviously already stressing about names Shock OH likes Berlin for one but I'm not so sure... Is it a proper name? Is it a bit out there? Will it grow on me? We were thinking middle name Beatrix so I suppose she could use that....Thanks

Why would you give your child a name that's so ridiculous you're anticipating her not wanting to actually use it????

I wouldn't. Much as I like Berlin (the city), it doesn't have any associations that make it appealing as a name. Brandenburg Gate? Berlin Wall? At least Paris conveys elegance.

Also, "A Berlin (or Berline) carriage was a type of covered, fast and light, four-wheeled, travelling carriage with two interior seats and a separate hooded rear seat for a footman, detached from the body. It had a distinctive two-perch running gear and thoroughbrace suspension, with the body hung high between the perches by shafts to leather braces" (wikipedia) and a "berline" in French means a saloon car... Again, nothing very appealing there.

Hamburg and Hannover.
Dusseldorf and Dresden.
Ludwighafen and Leipzig.

If you don't even like it in your current hormone-addled state (one where perfectly intelligent women convince themselves that all sorts of things are good names for babies), it's probably fair to say that it isn't going to grow on you later.

Is it the sound or the association with the place he likes? If he likes the sound the Spanish name Belen is the closest I can think of. But I wouldn't use Berlin as a name - I seem to recall it was a rubbish 80s pop group, and also the name of many a bad nightclub in the same era (showing my age!)

No....town names are interesting but not all are appealing. Don't land her with Berlin (people will say, 'eh? Belinda, is it?' etc) :-)
Beatrix is far better, a lovely name.

Yeah we had the 'conceived in' thought but didn't really think Benidorm would be appropriate.....Wink

No!! I have a friend called Paris and she hates it. People made fun all through school and univ.
