Does this work?? Also is it bad that my mother Inlaw is called Joanne and her cat is called Millie. I can see past it as I love the name but not sure the family will xx

Betsy, Elsie, those types are equally cringy to me for the same reasons and they are more commonly MC names.

I don't believe it's snobbery exactly. I think hyphenated names are in juvenile taste and lack sophistication. I also think that about names that are shortenings of traditional names such as Archie, Alfie, Millie. They are all of a similar type to my mind. I don't think it's about being uneducated or less well off, or whatever 'council estate' is being used to signify in this context. I know plenty of middle class children with silly, cutesy names and I don't like them either.

Yes I live on a council estate too. But there is a reason why hyphenated names are so hated on mumsnet and puddles has, not very tactfully, named it.

I think all puddles has done is pinpoint the exact reason why hyphenated names never go down well on frightfully middle class MN. Or are we going to pretend otherwise?

I'm not a fan of either name, but find Millicent a heck of a lot worse than Millie. Not everyone wants a name from the John Lewis acceptable list, you know.

Sorry, but no, you CANNOT give your child a name that's combines your mil's name and her cat's name. In fact, you can't use the cats name IMO.

I don't like any of the 'ee' sounding names - Poppy, Milly/Millie, Daisy etc, and I don't particularly like Jo either. My first thought was also Billie-Jo Jenkins. However Emily Josephine suggested above is not bad and would give you options to use Millie as a nn?

When I first saw the name, the Michael jackson song 'billy jean is not my lover' popped into my head! Millie-Jo is awful sorry. Millie and Jo are both ok on their own though Millie-Jo would live on a rough estate and mix with a bad crowd.

Op, honestly it's awful. Nurseries are heaving with Millies and Tillies. Jo is just dated and doesn't flow well with Milly.

I'm not a fan of hyphenated names personally. The kids I know with such names, though, haven't dropped the second part. I know a Sarah-Mae, a lily-grace and a lily-bea which for ages I though was lily b as in the first letter of her surname
