Boys names meaning gift, blessing, happiness etc.

After months of deliberation and thinking we had 'the name' we're still undecided. Last night, OH suggested Nathan and I quite like it (nn Nate) especially as it has the meaning "gift from God". We are not religious, but I do see this little one as a gift/blessing and I'm beginning to think it would be nice to have a name which reflects that. I also like the name Asher (meaning happy) but OH not keen. Jason means healer, which would be quite fitting as my daughter was stillborn 3 1/2 years ago so finally having another baby to love is quite healing. Again, OH not overly excited about the name.

Any other names with similar meanings?

Our surname ends in an 'ee' sound (but not spelt that way) and no-one has ever commented on it. Never really considered it. It is def a cool name though Grin

I like the name Jesse but surname ends with an 'ee' sound as well. Also know a 6 month old Jesse. I've always thought it was a cool name Smile

I'm 'Auntie' to a Jonathan - was worried that Nathan is too similar but Jonathan is only ever known as John so I don't think it will be an issue Grin

I think he will probably be Nathan Smile It's the only name me and OH have both instantly agreed on.

Shame it's welsh for John, I think it's lovely we live in England and never had anyone struggle with it.

It's Welsh it's an I not L so you pronounce it yiyan.

I quite like the name Felix but my name is Cat. Not sure I could get away with it Grin
Leuan is a name I've never come across.. Lovely meaning, but not a clue how it's pronounced?!

I like Tate, but I still prefer Nate/Nathan. I like that the nickname is optional and that there are different nicknames to choose from as he's growing up Smile

I know the most gorgeous wee boy called Tate, meaning cheerful. Similar, but different.

Raphael is a cool name. I don't think it goes with the rest of the name though.
I'm thinking Nathan will be pretty hard to beat as I think it sounds good with the surname, with or without the middle name, and obviously love it as a name on it's own. Also, it's the only name OH has been really passionate about.
He agrees that it would be nice to have more than one name to choose from though so please keep the suggestions coming Grin many thanks to everyone who has posted so far Thanks

First of all, I like Nathan (and think Nate is a cute nn). I'm not all that keen on Asher though.

I think Ewan, John and Michael have a similar meaning to Nathan (gift from God).

Otherwise:
Raphael - god's healer
David - beloved
Luke/Lucas - light

Thanks for all these name ideas. I will have to see if any are to OHs liking.. I like Theo and Oron from the suggestions so far, although still leaning towards Nathan. Middle name will be Richard (family name) so can't really use anything with Ed in it for his first name. My brother Richard had a twatty friend called Ed and I always referred to them as Dick n Ed when they were together lol

I clicked on this thread to suggest Nathan. I also have a 'gift from God' . We are not religious either but it's a name I always wanted to call my DS. He gets called Nat or Natty and one teacher always called him Nate.
