Jimmy.....first impressions?

Hello

DH and are are really struggling on boys names.

We seem to be getting somewhere with:
Jimmy Logan
Jimmy Jensen

What are your initial thoughts on Jimmy? What type of person do you picture?

I'm keen on Jensen as then there is always the option of JJ if I can convince DH to let me use that in the next few months!
(DH is very traditional - so extremely likely birth certificate would be James. I'm aware of many peoples extreme dislike for predetermined nicknames - but ideally I don't want to get into that debate now! Smile)

In case it helps:
DH loves traditional boring names. Not at all worried about popularity.
I love surnamey names/less popular names.

This doesn't suit either of our criteria but is starting to look like the beginning of a compromise! Grin

I like it (but definitely put James on the birth cert). I didn't think of Savile, although that may be because I thought his name was Jim'll (as in Jim'll fix it) for most of my childhood.

Tarbuck, I then had to google to make sure I didn't make up Jimmy Tarbuck.

I think James/Jimmy Logan sounds nicer than Jimmy Jensen (although I'm not a fan of Mr.Button) Grin

I read title of the thread and thought Jimmy Saville... I do think you are wise to think about nick names...I hate my DS's name shortened by his mates...

If he's called Jimmy he will likely get Jim and Jimbo as nicknames. Are you equally happy with those?

You could go for the Jimi (as in Hendrix) variant spelling.

I know two people called Jimmy. A 39 year old and a 2 year old. Both suit the name very well.

I think of Saville now, but give it a few years and no-one will make that connection. If you like it, go with it.

Have James on the birth certificate and then you have the glorious choice of James, Jimmy, Jim, Jamie.

I think you mean Harold (Shipman)
I'm Scottish and jimmy makes me think of old men or Jimmy Saville- why not go with James?

It was Harold Shipman, not David.

To me it's very odd. Sounds like an old codger's name, and not in a grandad-chic kind of way.

Ds has a friend Jimmy (24), he's a bit of a lovable rogue with a big grin and twinkly eyes so I immediately think of him. It's not a name I'd choose but ds's friend wouldn't put me off the name.
