Scottish Girls Names?

We have 3 DC, planning DC4 and we want to use a Scottish name if possible (dh is half scots and the other 3 dc have names from our other mixed nationalities).

For a boy we have pretty much decided on Ruaridh but have no idea for a girl.

our other 3 have 3 syllable names, classic but not very popular (somewhere around 500 on last years name ranks). We have a one syllable surname so need a longer first name to balance.

any suggestions?

McFox as long as you don't live near me then that is just fine Wink you clearly have good taste!!

I like Rowan too, although it feels more 'boyish' to me.

likewise the only Blythe I ever knew was a, boy, but I do like the sounds of it.

Rowena might be Germanic or it might be Welsh en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rowena but it became strongly associated with Scotland, too, after it was popularised by Sir Walter Scott in his novel 'Ivanhoe'.

Agnes (pronounced Annis in some parts of Scotland) may indeed slowly be making a comeback but Senga (anagram of Agnes) is already alive and well - and derogatory. See en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Senga

Erica is Latin for Heather, might that work.

Catriona (can be pronounced Katrina or Kat ree own a)

Well going back to 'Taggart' and a very good actress from East Kilbride how about Blythe? which would go beautifully imho with your surname.

I love Ishbel, as does DH unfortunately it would be very silly with our surname - you wouldn't call a child Joyce Joyce would you?! or James James!

Cora is nice, although I worry it will be getting too popular with downton abbey.

Elspeth has potential too.

Although we are Scottish we have a few welsh names used in our family (Rowena, Cerys, Ioan, Gethin)

Freya is a pretty name, but not in the least bit Scottish! AFAIK Freya/Freja is a Scandinavian name.
