Boys names are so hard. Help!

My dc2 is due any day now and we are expecting a boy. When I was pregnant with dc1 I had a very short list of boys names that I quite liked and a much longer list of girls names that I loved and we chose our favourite, Giselle, as soon as we saw her little face Smile

Here is our list:
Gabriel
Finn
Jude
Giles
Fabian
Jules (Dh added this recently)

I still like them all but not sure I really love any. My DH likes Gabriel most but hasn't always. I have been waiting to hear the perfect name and also telling myself that when I see my baby boy we will just know what to name him.

Can anyone of you lovely people suggest the perfect name for our Ds based on what we like already or perhaps something entirely different?!

TIA

Congratulations, fabulous name choice! :)

Well, my beautiful boy is finally in my arms and he is most definitely Finn! Thank you all for your help and comments Thanks

We have a Gabriel too so I'm utterly biased. Gorgeous name I'm always getting compliments for. Gabe is very masculine as a nn too. I like Jude from your list.

Other ideas:

Benedict
Raphael
Caspian
Sebastian
Lucien

Heck, boys names are difficult. I had a name picked for a girl two seconds after finding out i was pregnant but a boy's name? Nothing. I am 35 weeks and still no name. On your list op Gabriel is lovely. NN - Gabe. I also love Finn but not for my child, i have idea why.

Remmy123 · 18/02/2014 10:38

PS. My husband is Irish and i really wanted an Irish name which also confrimed our 2 year old's name Finn - i love it! i have noticed on Mumsnet it is known to be popular, but as mentioned i do not know ANY.

My older son is Jack which is also popular, but there isnt one in his year at school or at his football club.

You have to be careful when naming boys, I always used to say to my husband 'would you like to have been called A, B or C' that helped us decide

Remmy123 · 18/02/2014 10:34

I like Jude from your list. My favourite is Finn. My son is called Finn (Finn Oliver) and we do not know any other Finns in the area (Surrey).

Some others (just thinking about some boys who are in my older sons class):

Charlie
Jesse
Ellis
Ethan
Luca
Joseph
Harley
Elliott
Sam

IHeartKingThistle · 17/02/2014 21:51

We had Gabriel and Nathaniel on our list too. Also Elliot and Kit.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/02/2014 21:49

Really like Gabriel, Jude and Fabian, and am v fond of Julian (but not Jules).

Gideon
Jem (Jeremy)
Ross
Owen
Rowan
Francis
And I'll throw Roland in just in case - nobody ever likes it though!

Dreya · 17/02/2014 21:43

peaceful and mrsfullhouse I really like Idris (not so sure about Phineas though) but our surname ends in 2 ss's so it doesn't sound right. We are still no closer to deciding. We're going to have to call him baby for a while I think! Thank you all for your suggestions and if you think of any more, keep them coming. Smile

I used to know a Finnbar as another Finn option. Smile

Mrsfullhouse · 11/02/2014 09:29

I'm also going to chuck in....

Tobias
Asher
Rowan
Felix

And going to do a proper Smile because I seem incapable of doing one with my pregnant sausage fingers!

Mrsfullhouse · 11/02/2014 09:25

How about going with Phineas, shortened to finn, this way it's not too popular, has a funky nickname and solid irish roots for your mother?
Also sounds divine with Giselle! [Smile]

florascotia · 11/02/2014 09:14

Finn is nice. But Finlay (also nice) has recently been very popular and often gets shortened to 'Finn'.

But, as others have said, who cares how popular a name is if you really love it?

SweetPeaPods · 11/02/2014 03:51

Dreya he is 8m, we haven't met another one yet.

peacefuleasyfeeling · 10/02/2014 23:33

How exciting! I really like Jude and Gabriel from your list, and skimming down the thread I see some of my favourites from when DD2 was born; like some previous posters I had Ivan, Idris, Eli and Ambrose on my list in the event of DD being a boy. But my absolute favourite, which I can share now that I know everyone's definitely arrived at the party chez Peaceful, is Elmo. Just lovely. Timeless, classless, would sound the same in any country and language (important to us). It's so lovely I sometimes think it would be worth another try... I wish you the very best of luck!

SicknSpan · 10/02/2014 23:17

I only know of 3 Finns, one is 12, one is 7 and the other 5. Don't think it's an especially common name but not so odd that it's noticeably weird, if you get my meaning.

Glad I helped with Nate, even if only for a little while!

Good luck :)

Dreya · 10/02/2014 23:11

Sweetpeapods may I ask how old your Finn is? I have read some previous threads on here and it would seem it's really popular (Dh really doesn't want a popular name) yet I have only ever met one and he is in his 20s now. It is also an old family name on my mum's side (I'm half Irish) and she would be thrilled if we chose it.

SweetPeaPods · 10/02/2014 22:41

Sorry forgot Lucas, Micah and Reuben. DH said no to all 3

SweetPeaPods · 10/02/2014 22:40

We have a Finn
Also on our list was Nate, Rory, Zach, Eli, Caleb, Charlie & William.

BoyMeetsWorld · 10/02/2014 22:37

Not read the rest so sorry if all dupes but these were the others on our short list which we didn't use...

Marius
Dashiell
Saul
Idris
Lochlan

Dreya · 10/02/2014 22:25

Thank you all for your suggestions so far but none of the names grab me. It's odd because I like some of them like Louis for example for other people's children but wouldn't use them myself.

Nate is off the list now too. This is so difficult.

Love Fabian.

Madamecastafiore · 10/02/2014 21:51

Theo
Gabriel
Rupert
Ruben
Rufus
Milo

Were our boys names......

But we had an Alice Grin

pygmy · 10/02/2014 21:48

Dreya, I also have a Louis and a Hector.
I also love Edgar, Otto, Magnus, Ivo and Gilbert. Oh and Arthur and Felix, but have used them as middle names.
