Ok, this is it. Final girls name decision

We finally sat down and talked about names. The contenders are:

Romilly (we both love this, but it is similar to our son's name and a distant friend has already used it. Does that matter?)
Xanthe
Beatrice
Tess (but short for what?)
Imogen
Georgia
Stella
Abigail

Surname is two syllables ending in er. Please help this be my last post..

I love Stella but it does make me think of lager and that one has nasty connotations.

We have an Abigail so obv like that one.

Dh loves Georgia and I have always vetoed.

Have always liked Tessa as well.

But if Romilly is your fav go with that.

Thanks all - I do find it helpful to get feedback! On Xanthe, it is very likely that she will be blonde, so presumably that would be an argument in its favour. DH thinks its a bit posh/try hard, I disagree (and would rather have a name that is seen as posh than the other end of the spectrum). The rhyminess of Stella and Georgia with our surname bothers me but DH says I'm mad and it's fine.

My favourite is Abigail but I also like Tess, Georgia and Stella.

If your favourite is Romilly go for that. I liked Abigail too. But they were all fine. Nothing stood out as being a no-no.

But I would say a name like Georgia Walker or something is a bit too rhymey. Tess reminds me of a pet dog a friend once had. Tessa though, I like that.
I love Romilly but I don't know if the friend would make it feel odd for you. Then again I wished I called my DS a name that a relative chose just 2 weeks before, so I had to change DS's planned name at the last minute. I still wish I'd stuck with the original name for him.

Stella reminds me of a colleague, but if I can get past that association I like it

Did you say your surname ends in -er? Would that mean that Stella rhymed with it? Just a thought.

I love Stella as a name. Once met a new father in a lift going up to the maternity unit. We got to talking and he said that his new baby was called Stella, after his GF's favourite drink. I still think it's a lovely name though. Did know of a child named Tia Maria.

What about Romola? Pronounced 'Rom ur ler'? Although - is this heading for the same rhymy territory again?

Like them all except maybe Beatrice. But are you aware that Xanthe means yellow (I think?) so how likely is it your daughter will be blonde?

I like Beatrice (Beatrix is even more fab imo) most and then Abigail. Stella is nice too. I didn't think of the beer at all.

Stella.

Lager doesn't cross my mind. Know two Stellas ( mixed ages) and it is unusual enough without being odd.

You could have Estella if you wanted to distance yourself from the lager, which does come to mind, but so do star and McCartney.

I didn't think of the lager at all until you said it Grin To me Stella is a classy name with a beautiful meaning.

Thanks all. Some of these are DH's contributions (Georgia, Abigail, Beatrice), which tbh I'm less keen on. Does Stella make you think of the lager?

Tess - ok, not overly keen.
