What to call grandmothers?

We also let them choose.
We have Nanny & Grandad,
Nan & Grandpa,
Nana & Grandad.

We have: Granny and Grampy (first grandchild, so they chose - same names as their own parents) and Nanny and Grandad (12th grandchild so already named). Surprised not to see anyone else called Grampy posted here, it is quite common where I live in the South West.

DD(3) is going through a phase (which we are trying really hard to stop) of calling them black manma and brown manma because of the colour of their hair...
It used to be just manma for MIL and manma papa for my parents (no FIL) which sounds much better!

My parents are Grandma and Grandpa and PILs are Nanny and Grandad. Their choice, but I'm glad they chose different names. I expect Nanny will become Nan when DD is older.

My nan was Omi (which is German for granny), grandad was gramps! Or grumpy gramps

My grandparents were Nanny and Bampy (1st grand child's attempt at Grandpa) and Grandma and Grandad. My great grandmothers were Grandma Marshall (her surname) and Nanny-Nan.

My children have Granny and Papa (we wanted to keep Bampy going but 1st grand child decided it was papa); and Nona (Italian) and had Nando (His name).

They also have Nanny Joy and had Papi who are great aunt and uncle who live nearby.

MIL is Grandma, DM is Mimi and DF's partner is Nonna. DM chose hers, the other two were already in play because of older cousins.

My grandmothers were Nana and Grandma, DH's were Granny X and Granny Y

My Grandma = Nana to DS & other great grandchildren
DF = Grandad X (X describes his hobby/ job but sounds good with grandad)
DM = Angie* (She refused to be grandma or Nan because it sounded too old so we joked she could be Nangie which DS turned into Angie. No-one ever calls her that other than DS)
My Stepfather = GrandDave*

Nowadays - 19 years since she became one, I also quite nakedly called DH's mum "the old bag". DH is coming round to my point of view

My DM is Granny, which she was already to my DNs. My dad is Grandpa.

Late MIL was Grandma, but FIL died before we had DS.

We see his maternal birth grandparents too, and they are referred to as Grandma and Grandpa Lastname.

DM is Gan Gan at the moment but will be Gran or Granny (DD is only 10 months old)
DF is Ganda but will be Grandad
Partners Mum is Nan or Nanny
Partners Dad is Granddad as well, as far as I can tell. Depends what he wants to be called really :)

I had a Grandma and Grandpa and Granny and Grandad, also had a great-grandmother who I called Nannie, as my mum had a great-grandmother too and called her Nannie.

Now my LO is on the way he/she will have two great-grandmothers too, so I'm going to pass on the tradition of calling great-grandmothers Nannie! With he two they'll be Nannie (first name).

My mum will be Grandma and dad will be Grandpa. DP's mum will be Gran and dad will be Grandad. DH has a stepfather and stepmother too, they will be grandad (first name) and grandma (first name) complicated but we've managed it!

DH-Nana and Papa. They're a Scottish/Irish blend.

My parents are Baba (Ukrainian grandmother,) Nonno (Italian grandfather,) and his wife is Lola (a diminutive of her name.)

Everyone got a name. It was easier picking DD's name.

Ask the grandparents what they want and stick to it. I am not a grandmother yet but I shall choose my name, not the parents. I accept that the grandchildren might change it.

My child is going to have 5 grandmothers and 2 grandfathers (due to second marriages and gay grandparents). It will only really see 4 of the grandmothers, so we're having a real struggle with what to call them all!!

My mother is Nanny (her choice and she's Nanny to my niece). My father is Grandpa First name (again because that's what niece calls him). My father's wife is 'Aunty first name' (she has never been our stepmother and no desire to be called grandmother so her choice). Italian inlaws are Nonno/Nonna respectively (there is no other alternative in Italian language).

my kids have a grandma and grandad (my parents) and nannan first name (mil) and yes Jaskla we are in south yorkshire. Great grandparents used to be grandad first name and nannan first name.

My nephew's other grandparents are nanny and bamps.

So they have Grandma and Grandad, and Granny and Grandpa.

We too had that.

It was drilled into us by the well-off side of the family (Granny) that nannies were staff, and she was absolutely not to be called nanny/nana/nan, as she was not hired help. I don't remember ever calling her anything other than Granny, but it's possible one or other of us could have when were first learning to talk.

I had two Grandmas and Granddads and they were referred to as Grandma/Granddad when not present to distinguish between them.

One of my Grandma's was vehemently against 'Nan/Nanna/Nanny' as she believed it either made her sound like a goat or resembled a baby learning to talk!

DP is from South Yorkshire and calls his Nannan which I had never heard of before I met him. I still joke that it's something his family have made up but have since heard some of his friends use it so it must be a regional thing. Interestingly his DM's sister refers to herself as Grandma and his DM often has to correct herself from referring to her DSis as Nannan when talking to the grandchildren.

Mine: Grandma first name, Her husband is first name
DH's: Grandma firstname, grandad first name

Over time my mother has become Grannie first name and DH's remains Grandma first name.

My DM and DF are Nana and Pop (Pop passed down through several generations of DF's family)
MIL is Nanny
FIL is Grandad and his partner is Kiki, which is a name pfb came up with as he couldn't say her first name as a toddler.

My mum & mil are both Nana to my kids. my mum chose it because it was easy to say & she could tell herself it was the baby's first word

We use Grandad for my fil & Pa for my dad.
