Hi there

I have posted before but only have 2 weeks to go and our 'shortlist' seems to be getting longer not shorter. I am struggling to get clarity over which names are lovely and which names aren't quite so lovely (but are still lovely)!

So, the list is as follows:

  • Evelyn (pronounced Ev-lin)
  • Tessa
  • Anya (anne-ya)
  • Thea (thee-ah)
  • Esme (es-may)
  • Natasha
  • Elyn (a new one I came across the other day and thought it looked nice!)

Big brother has an Old Testament name and we have an 'exotic' sounding surname.

Thanks in advance! x

Thanks everyone for your comments. I think we would pronounce Elyn as Eh-Lynne, hadn't thought about the fact that it sounds like Helen without the H though!! I agree it could be one of those names that needs to be constantly corrected both from a spelling and pronunciation point of view though. Not sure if that's enough to put me off or not...

Regarding the nn for Natasha, I don't mind Tasha but don't like Tash particularly, I do know though that there is very little I can do to control any nicknames as the child goes to school, gets older, etc and often nicknames may not even be related to a person's name so I don't think that would be enough to put me off this as an option.

Keep the comments coming in I'm very much enjoying reading them!Smile

Elin is both a Scandinavian and Welsh name.

UriGeller · 28/01/2014 11:13

Love Thea and Natasha but I don't like any of the others, sorry.

If you like Elyn how do you feel about Elif? (Pronounced Eh-Leaf) I know a little girl with that name who is known as 'Leaf', I think its so pretty.

ksrwr · 28/01/2014 11:08

i think they're all lovely names - really great list

why dont you keep them all, then when she arrives see what she looks like, and which of the names suit her

Daytona79 · 28/01/2014 11:04

I only like Natasha

Ihatepeas · 28/01/2014 10:20

Great list!!

If I helps dd is called Evelyn (EV-lyn) and we have never had any issues with pronunciation. I think it's beautiful (obviously!)

I really love Anya which is on my list for next dc.

Eyln is gorgeous too never come across it before but has a similar feel to Evelyn IMO.

Tessa and Thea seen a bit like nicknames to me.

Not keen on Esme and like Natasha but hate Tasha.

Freckletoes · 28/01/2014 10:07

Evelyn first-surely everyone knows how to pronounce it?!?
Thea

noodlebum · 28/01/2014 10:00

My favourites are Evelyn and Anya Smile

MamaPingu · 28/01/2014 00:35

Evelyn only for me OP! Smile

NoSquirrels · 28/01/2014 00:29

Love Evelyn but the pronunciation issues put me off. Elyn similar.

Love Anya and Thea.

Like Natasha, but it sounds quite formal, so the nickname would be key for me.

Not keen on Esme, sorry.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 28/01/2014 00:24

Evelyn.

feelingvunerable · 28/01/2014 00:23

Evelyn

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 28/01/2014 00:12

Anya, Thea & Natasha. Probably in that order (possibly Thea first).

I think with Elyn, you will have a lifetime of incorrect spelling & mispronunciation. Although I do like it!

Evelyn I just don't like - maybe because it sounds a little 'harsh'.

Esme I really don't like. No particular reason or negative association, just not my cup of tea.

Tessa is OK - I prefer Tess though.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 28/01/2014 00:00

Anya and Natasha. Elyn I am curious is that Ee-lyn or El-lyn? Reminds me of Swedish name Elin (Ay-lin).

GlitzAndGiggles · 27/01/2014 23:52

Evelyn

newyearhere · 27/01/2014 23:50
  1. Natasha
  2. Anya
  3. Evelyn
BlueStarsAtNight · 27/01/2014 22:01

Anya or Tessa. Also love Evelyn, but pronounced Eve-lyn.

kipplin · 27/01/2014 20:31

Anya
Thea
Tessa

In that order, all lovely names.

Bowlersarm · 27/01/2014 19:37

Tessa

Or

Natasha

BikeRunSki · 27/01/2014 19:36

Your list is very similar to my girls list. Dd is now 2 and doesn't have any of those names, but Elin (that spelling) is one of my most favourite girls names.

HyvaPaiva · 27/01/2014 19:36

Anya
Thea

Oriunda · 27/01/2014 19:34

Thea
Esme

DumSpiroSpero · 27/01/2014 19:17

Tessa
Evelyn
Natasha
Esme

in that order!

Wishfulmakeupping · 27/01/2014 19:10

I like Evelyn the most and then Thea. I do think Tessa is sweet but much prefer Tess

LondonBus · 27/01/2014 19:10

Anya or Thea.

Both were on my short list. The only reason wrote off Thea was becaue DS2 said "fear" instead of Thea.

DH must have preferred DD's name to Anya, because I love it.
