Help with name to go with 'unusual' (comedy) surname please!

I've posted before about girls names to go with our unhelpful surname Aldock (see -

but now I need boys name suggestions please!

Again, we've had to rule quite a few we like out, eg. Jacob (Jaco Baldcock) and Aidan (which I just think doesn't sound right - and as I've said in my previous thread, I don't really like alliteration).

We like Isaac but it just wouldn't work - I's a coldcock or I suck old cock??????!!!

Though we think Zac is a possiblility - Does Zac Aldcock sound ok?

Please can you give us some suggestions (boys or girls) - it's driving me a little crazy!!!!! Thank you!

How about Algernon?

Algernon Aldcock.

Strong name, could be shortened if wanted but nothing obviously jumps out. Also, Algernon is one of Rupert's friends so nice connection for when small and starting to read.

Leo is nice though prefer Leon.
Don't like Leonard or Magnus.
Harry is ok though where Im from it'd probably be pronounced 'Arry so Arry Aldcock doesn't sound great!
Lincoln is cool but maybe a little too out there for us.

I don't think Leon is problematic actually. I also don't think joe is feminine. But how about Leo, Leonard, Lincoln, Harry or Magnus?

Ok so Shaun and Leon are out! There doesn't seem much in that I like??!

Joseph has always been a favourite of mine and that seems to be ok though DH seems to think Joe sounds a bit too feminine???!

I do like Jared though don't know if it's too harsh sounding?

Nicholas is nice but is the name of an ex!

Not keen on too traditional names like John and Edward.

As someone said, we're up against it!!!!!

I agree it has to be something strong and straightforward. James, John, Edward, something like that. Joseph would be fine too, as you like it. You don't have to shorten it. You can't control what his friends when he's slightly older are going to do.

I know a few people with what could be considered to be embarrassing names and they rock them. Though I probably couldn't - too much of a weed.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. With a silly surname you need a classic mans name like John, Robert, William, James, etc. Although I do quite like Bartholomew Aldcock if it wasn't for the B initial. So maybe you have to either go mega boring or mega out there. How about the MN favourite Ptolemy Aldcock?
