This is my sister's baby girl name list..thoughts please:

Naomi
Georgia
Eleanor
Helen
Harriet (her dp loves and wants this, sister unsure of it)

Beth

Sister's DP is adamant that she be called Harriet, but for some reason sister thinks it sounds a bit manly?! Difficult one!

Georgia is my absolute favourite of the list. All the others are perfectly nice and pretty, but Georgia is the pick of the bunch. Harriet isn't manly to my ear.

Helen and Harriet are lovely.

I don't think it sounds manly. Because of the "Harry" bit? All the Harriets I've known have been very delicate and pretty so that probably affects my opinion. Maybe she's known a rugby-playing, beer-chugging Harriets in her time Grin

I like Naomi and Harriet.

I really like Helena rather than Helen but Helen is fine.

Georgia, Jessica, Eleanor are ok imo.

Beth I really dislike.

Harriet sounds quite feminine to me - maybe because it sort of rhymes with Violet. However, if a girl named Harriet turned out to be larger than average, I think it would come across as masculine.

I hate to hear of anyone being adamant about a name. When there are two parents there needs to be a bit more meeting half way.

The feeling your views are being disregarded and a situation where one parent will either win or lose is no way to go into what should be a happy time for both parents.

I love Eleanor with that spelling, and Bethany I think is quite cute with Beth as a nn (I can't use this if I have children really as it's not too far from a name of an immediate family member). I flipping detest Harriet due to my school days but I think with the right surname it can be lovely. I like Jessica and Georgia, am impartial to Helen (also prefer Helena) and am not keen on Naomi however where I live it is a name given to the sister of Jayden/Kayden.

How about Henrietta if Harriet is not quite right? Similar, but I think Henrietta is a bit more feminine, possibly.

I like Harriet/Hattie but surname starting with T made is a bit of a mouthful. Georgia and Eleanor lovely too xx

Naomi and Jessica are my faves. I like Beth as well but maybe as a middle name as it feels a bit incomplete for a first name imo

We have similar tastes op and your top 3 are my favourites. My only issue with Eleanor is that I don't like Ellie. I feel the same about Harriet but I've never met one in real life.

I love Harriet....if your BIL is very keen on it and your DSis is not, buy her a copy of The Little Friend by Donna Tartt....the heroine is a young girl called Harriet, I never liked the name before I read the book, but she is so brilliant I now love the name...from wikki "Harriet, who looks like a "small badger," is the sort of child who likes to read about Genghis Khan and Captain Scott and to stir up fights among her great-aunts by telling them what they really think of each other's Christmas gifts" she is just brilliant Smile

I've only met two Harriets, and both were remarkable characters - intelligent, individual, creative, strong-minded....

For lovers of old-fashioned detective novels, there is also Lord Peter Wimsey's Harriet Vane, of course.

I like them all except Helen, though I'm a bit meh about Beth.
