Something to focus on!

I'm 10 weeks and practically bed bound with Morning Sickness, so trying to cheer myself by thinking of names and looking at cute baby clothes! Anything to focus on. I have a fairly unusual name (not crazy but not in top 100 lists) and have been happy with it so I want to go with something similar, but it's a worry I'll go too far! Does anyone else dread looking a bit wanky with their name choices?! Anyway, my girl choice at the moment is Liberty (would probably go by Libby a lot) and boys is Nathanial. I love them but a strong part of my northern pit town working class upbringing is making me feel a bit try hard middle class about them :) my DH loves them too (although I'm reining him in from 'Liberty Belle' which he thinks would be hilarious...

Went away and never came back on the thread until now! Yes it would be Nathaniel, typo from iPhone keyboard and my giant fingers :) I love that I can go with Nat and Nate too. Liberty is really such a fave of us both that we are probably going with it. I was all set for Scarlett but close friends got in there first (also its mad popular now, I've always loved Gone With the Wind and wanted it for years, it used to be so uncommon!)

'Virtue' names are lovely, I love Faith, and even like Charity though it's a bit out there. Again my DH would like it because he's very fond of US history so Puritan/founding father names are his thing :)

Thanks all, I am far less sick and feel almost myself again!

I loved Liberty but was talked out of it by DH. I sometimes still hanker after it. Also loved Nathaniel nn Nate for a boy - it equally suits a baby and a strapping lad. I'm a northerner too and wouldn't think either were wanky - just quite cool and a bit different.
Good luck with your pregnancy and hope the morning sickness clears up soon.

Elizabeth is a good long name for nickname Libby.

Nathaniel is fine, and Nat a great nickname too. If you feel it's too long how about Nathan or Daniel?

I quite like Liberty. I think it's best not to get too hung up on names being of a particular class. Just pick something you like. Names I would put in a similar category (virtue names) are:
Amity
Constance (Connie)
Faith
Hope
Felicity
Verity

Do you like any of those?

In my experience Nathaniel tends to get shortened to Nat or Nate.

Names that, for some reason, I think are similar would be:
Maximilian
Lawrence
Dominic

Hope the morning sickness subsides soon.

Hi Redling, like Liberty, but Nathanial? Nathaniel? Of course up to you and loads of names with different spellings, though you can imagine what Katie Hopkins would say. Woman seems ghastly but tbh have agreed with her sometimes & know correlations have been found with names and socioeconomic status, for whatever reasons. Think I'm just sensitive to spelling though as like you have an uncommon but not weird traditional one (met 2 others). Only one spelling of it though and annoys me when people get it wrong!

Hope you feel better soon. I should be 10 weeks tomorrow but don't dare think about names, my only symptom's tender nipples. Hoping I should be grateful and it's ok but had a missed misc diagnosed at 11,1 last year so can't help fearing this might be going the same way, even though had a heartbeat at 5,5. Have fun deciding.
