Isla, Ida or Iris

Noooooo, not Iris! eyeball associations and frumpiness is all I hear. Ida on the other hand is really lovely and cute and chic. Isla is sweet too, might depend on the surname.

Although obviously an iris is a flower, the name actually comes from the Greek for rainbow.

I love Ida, but would wonder if she'd get lots of jokes based on "I'd a ..."

Ida was the name of Laura's best friend in the later Little House books.

We couldn't use Iona either for a similar reason! Then I'd go for Iris I think. Ida still sounds like an old lady...

Iris or Isla.

I really don't get this "ok if you're Scottish or Dutch or whatever". If you like a name you can use it despite your place of birth. I get that it makes sense if you're choosing something difficult to pronounce eg. Eilidh but why limit yourself to names only from your country?

I really like Iona but my surname has 'shoe' as the second syllable so would sound a bit like I own a shoe!

Iris.

Ida is a too grannyish even for me as a granny name lover.

Isla is bland and ridiculously popular right now. I know 6 different baby Islas Confused .

Thanks for the feedback, I think I am going towards Iris, just hoped it wasn't too old ladyish / frumpy.

Isla I love but it's so 'now' and a bit popular.

Ida i've heard recently and seems unusual and quite chic.

Iris although I don't normally like flower names. Ida is an old woman from Coronation Street for me, really clunky name. Isla is ok if you are Scottish.

Isla isn't bad but I think of it as a Scottish name (which is fine if you're Scottish or have Scottish connections) just can't get Isla St Claire out of my head - sorry

Ida unfortunately sounds like an old woman whose best friends are Gladys, Reenee and Eunice
