Hi

It's still early days so we've got plenty of time to decide but I'd like your opinions on our boys list for DC2 please. If the child turns out to be male I fear we may never agree on a name. This is a list of names we almost agree on:

Lawrence - Lawry for short
Seth
Evan
Eric

Thanks so much in advance for your help

Lawrence is not posh at all round here (Derbyshire) - v popular esp with the farming families. ALWAYS shortened to Loz by teenage, which is one to avoid!

newyearhere · 21/01/2014 10:26

Eric is great, short, snappy and due a comeback. I like Seth for similar reasons too.

BartBaby · 21/01/2014 09:20

To me Eric is a boring middle aged mans name. Seth is one of the older names thats making a come back. Lawrence does sound a little bit posh. Evan is ok. I prefer Seth out of them all. Followed by Evan.

Misspilly88 · 20/01/2014 21:05

Seth!! Lovely :)

nevergoogle · 17/01/2014 09:54

I like Eric.

RufusTheReindeer · 17/01/2014 09:51

Ds couldn't pronounce dds name for ages...people thought we had named her after a teletubby!

La La!

RufusTheReindeer · 17/01/2014 09:50

Nope don't think it's a problem, just explaining that I love it but we felt we shouldn't have it, it was more the surname bit...

notso · 17/01/2014 07:55

All the OP's names except probably Evan could be mispronounced by little children though, not just Seth.

Lauwy/ Lauwence or Laurenth depending on what they struggle to say.
Ewic.

I don't think it's a major issue, they usually grow out of it.

RufusTheReindeer · 16/01/2014 20:29

My number three was nearly a Seth

It was just that ds1 was only four and had a bit of a lisp, and our surname would have made the child sound like an Emerdale extra

Love Seth, deffo gets my vote

GoldenDaffodil · 16/01/2014 20:26

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply :)

Lawrence/Laurence is still my favourite. Will go back to DH to continue the discussions. I think I'd be happy with any of them though and I agree that Erik is definitely a better spelling.

Lawrence

Phaedra11 · 16/01/2014 19:46

I love the name Seth but it was vetoed by DH when we had our boys. Kids with lisps might have a problem saying Seth though - I know because I have a Maffoo Matthew.

My friend's DS is Laurie/Lawrence and I like that a lot too.

lookdeepintotheparka · 16/01/2014 19:32

Love Lawrence with nn Laurie or Lawrie

invicta · 16/01/2014 19:30

Love Seth.

All the names are good.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/01/2014 19:29

not, not nit!

IHeartKingThistle · 16/01/2014 19:28

I love Lawrence. Also love Lawrie, Laurie or Larry. It's a fab name. My DH vetoed itAngry

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/01/2014 19:10

Love Laurence with this spelling, nit the W one. Lawry looks weird to me - love Laurie.

Dislike the others, sorry - especially Seth.

ToffeeJungle · 16/01/2014 18:58

I like Evan.

Dislike the others - Seth sounds a bit wet, Lawrence is a bit posh and Eric is a bit old fashioned (in a bad way!)

Snowflakepie · 16/01/2014 17:29

Eric was also slang for condom when I was small, just couldn't name a child that myself! Looks better as Erik though.

Love Lawrence. I knew one at uni who called himself Ren, but it has more obvious nns Lawrie, Laurie, Larry etc.

Evan is ok. Seth I don't much like, there is one at DDs preschool and he gets called Seff, it sounds awful to me.

Keepthechangeyoufilthyanimal · 16/01/2014 17:02

I love Lawrence and Seth (in fact both would be on my boys short list if it wasn't for the fact that Lawrence was my maiden name and Seth doesn't flow with our surname)
Not keen on Eric and Evan is nice, I also like Ivan.

Mim78 · 16/01/2014 16:56

I like Evan

Orangeisthenewbanana · 16/01/2014 16:55

Evan or Seth

Lawrence is nice but does sound a bit posh. I'm also with Honey, Erik is much better than Eric.

HoratiaDrelincourt · 16/01/2014 16:41

Lawrence - love it.

HoneyandRum · 16/01/2014 16:40

Seth sounds a bit too soft and wet to me. I like Lawrence although you may have to accept some of his mates calling him Larry and not Lawry as he gets older (nns by their nature are not necessarily controlled by parents). Evan is OK. I like Eric with a K. Erik, Scandanavian stylie.

MrsPatMustard · 16/01/2014 16:33

Adore both Lawrence and Seth but DH vetoed them for our baby (boo..)
