Oh it's beautiful!! Love it. Am very jealous!

MyNameIsKenAdams · 16/01/2014 16:08

I also like that if she ever asked about her name I can show her My Girl and its a good reason!

I must add, seeing the In Laws faces when we tell them the name is an added bonus. Aoife is on the list mainly as I adore it but also comedy value at the ILs attempting to pronounce it.

Im not Irish _ hence why I didnt know about the bread

Complete nostalgia here - reminded me of Vada Sultenfuss from the film My Girl

Of course, I thought about Darth, too - but that was secondary.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 16/01/2014 16:04

I do like Ada - it isnt a name I had ever thought of, and it has a little 'old lady' feel to it, like DDs name.

Anna is a classic - however our surname is Can........
So she would be Anna Can...... Grin

I've also loved the name since My Girl, but don't think I'd have the guts to use it (not that DH would ever agree). Ada is a good alternative, and the little girl was played by an 'Anna' which is a lovely name. People may only think of 'Darth' when they first meet her, after that I'm sure they'll attach it to her as a person, so if you (and your DH) really love it, go for it!

youbethemummylion · 16/01/2014 15:25

Nope Veda is not a bread in England but its spelt Vada and pronounced Vayda not Veeda if that makes a difference, how do you pronounce the bread?

whatsagoodusername · 16/01/2014 11:54

I immediately thought of My Girl.

MyNameIsWinkly · 16/01/2014 11:44

Is Veda not a bread in England then? 14 years here and still learning. In NI it would be a bit like calling your baby Ciabatta.

UriGeller · 16/01/2014 11:42

Like Ada with a V?

Ja9 · 16/01/2014 11:39

A NI pg woman here now desperately craving a hunk of Veda with lashings of butter...!

akachan · 15/01/2014 12:54

Made me think of the Rig Veda rather than Darth!

Monkeyandanimal · 15/01/2014 12:33

I would say Leda as Layda. Or how about Vita? Said Veeta?

hatebeak · 15/01/2014 11:45

How about Theda?

youbethemummylion · 15/01/2014 08:22

Love it if I had had a girl instead of boys there would be a little Vada running around not caring one bit about the Darth comments

MyNameIsKenAdams · 15/01/2014 08:18

Oh I always thought it was Veda. Actually prefer Vada Grin

It isa name DH would probably veto but he vetoed dds name and ended up loving it!

I like it. Has a very spiritual resonance in my culture.

Bunbaker · 15/01/2014 08:01

How do you pronounce it? I would say Veeda, having never come across the name before.

Vajazzler · 15/01/2014 07:59

My girl is one of my favourite films and I loved the name Vada. Unfortunately dh vetoed it but in hindsight I would have pushed harder to get my way. Do it!

whereisthewitch · 15/01/2014 07:57

Yeah it was definitely Vada not Veda which is the best bread ever! Sorry OP, you could probably get away with it so long as you're not in NI.

HopeS01 · 15/01/2014 07:54

I liked the name in My Girl too, but because they're American I was sure whether it was Veta or Veda Blush

willyoulistentome · 15/01/2014 07:26

..as in leader? Or layder?

Monkeyandanimal · 15/01/2014 07:18

how about leda instead?

willyoulistentome · 15/01/2014 07:17

Yes. I'd immediately expect her breath to start rasping and for her to be an evil child.

JapaneseMargaret · 15/01/2014 07:13

What badtime said.

badtime · 15/01/2014 00:26

The character from My Girl was called Vada.
