Posy

Baby due in 8 weeks and DH and I unable to agree on a name for either a boy or a girl.
Everything I suggest he shakes his head at and does a resolute 'no.'
He suggested Marlene yesterday. You can imagine.

But I may have stumbled on something. Posy. Which he likes, and I do too. It's so sweet.

But would she have to be Josephine nn Posy? And would we be inflicting a lifetime of Poser/Posy name calling?

We already have a Violet...

You could definitely get away with a rose-related name shortened to Posy. E.g Rosemary, Rosalyn/Rosalind, Rosamud etc.
And I think Posy is a gorgeous name, even for a doctor or barrister.

squoosh · 13/01/2014 11:49

I prefer Marlene to Posy.

ViviPru · 13/01/2014 11:56

In a similar vein to Posy, I think Tansy is nice.

SoonToBeSix · 13/01/2014 11:57

Posy is lovely till around age 8 then it's just ridiculous sorry.

lljkk · 13/01/2014 11:59

Do you mind Jo/Josie/Fina -- she could choose any of those NNs instead, too.

squoosh · 13/01/2014 12:02

Yes Tansy is lovely and doesn't sound as sickly sweet,

pilates · 13/01/2014 12:08

Sorry not keen on Posy, especially when she becomes an adult.

Marlene reminds me of the character in Only Fools And Horses.

What about Primrose?

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 13/01/2014 12:41

Posy is one of those cutesy baby names that I can't imagine on anyone past the age of 7.

WeAreSix · 13/01/2014 12:49

Good suggestion pilates, Primrose is lovely.

Frontdoorstep · 13/01/2014 18:49

I think Posy is nice, if you're going to call her Posy I wouldn't go for some longer name that doesn't really have Posy as a nickname. Just call her Posy.

BananaHammocks · 13/01/2014 18:53

I know a grown up Posy, she has a good job, hasn't held her back! Is a bit too cutesy for me though!

Bowlersarm · 13/01/2014 18:56

Not a fan of Sonny personally but it could be short for Solomon?

Posy is lovely, but again, I would have it short for something.

RalphRecklessCardew · 13/01/2014 19:08

Marlene is much better. Marlo?

ChilliQueen · 13/01/2014 19:15

Post... a lovely name.
Also one of The Flumps. A 1970's kids tv programme.
Still a lovely name though.

NigellasDealer · 13/01/2014 19:15

Marlene is cool as hell, Posy sounds sweet but as others have said, perhaps only for under 8s

ChilliQueen · 13/01/2014 19:15

Sorry... should have said Posy.
POST is not a great name!!!

Rhubarbgarden · 13/01/2014 20:13

Twee as hell. I would hate to be called Posy.

strawberryswing · 17/01/2014 15:01

In the minority but I'm with rhubarbgarden, I would change my name asap if I was Posy. (And I already have a hideous name).

Sorry, I love Josephine though, I would certainly give another option incase she hated Posy.

MrsMarigold · 17/01/2014 15:06

I knew a lovely woman called Posy Christmas - great name
