Bram

This is for potential baby number 2. I love it and think it goes well with our first son's name but DH isn't sure and would rather a 'proper name' so I am trying to work out what it could be short for.

So far I have got Abraham/Abram or Bertram. Any other ideas at all?

lottiegarbanzo · 09/01/2014 09:43

Bertram Wooster though!

lottiegarbanzo · 09/01/2014 08:24

So it was.

Rosencrantz · 09/01/2014 02:58

LOVE Bram. The Dracula connection completely does it for me. Channels my inner goth.

VworpVworp · 09/01/2014 00:23

lottie that was Bertrand

MillyONaire · 08/01/2014 21:35

LOVE it!!!

lottiegarbanzo · 08/01/2014 21:31

Ooh, Bertram, as in Russell, is properly awesome.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/01/2014 20:31

Absolutely bloomin' love both Bram and Bertram.

Primadonnagirl · 08/01/2014 20:27

I would go with Abraham officially but love the name Abe..

VworpVworp · 08/01/2014 20:20

I know a Bram, just Bram- it's a great name!

It's Bran in GoT- Bran is welsh for raven (the child has visions of ravens)

BookTart · 08/01/2014 20:15

Bram was on my list for a boy. I think it is a great name :)

TheLostPelvicFloorOfPoosh · 08/01/2014 20:12

Game of Thrones?

I think

glittershoes · 08/01/2014 20:03

Oooh, Ambrose! Never get DH to agree to that though!

What is GoT?

It doesn't even sound like a name. When I say it out loud I just hear 'pram'.

TheLostPelvicFloorOfPoosh · 08/01/2014 19:44

I love Bram, I think it works on its own

CaptainCorellisVentolin · 08/01/2014 19:40

Bram is a good old Dutch name (and my little brother's name). Whilst fairly common over there, I would personally not use it in English.

But...that is just my personal opinion and if you and your DH really like the name, I would say use it!

AryaofhouseSnark · 08/01/2014 19:36

Bramothy ? Wink

BikeRunSki · 08/01/2014 19:34

Ambrose?

AryaofhouseSnark · 08/01/2014 19:33

Gah DYAC

AryaofhouseSnark · 08/01/2014 19:33

I love VRAM, Bran is nice too.

glittershoes · 08/01/2014 19:31

Thanks for the responses.

I would just go with Bram personally but I was hoping to get DH onside with a more official name that could be shortened!

I quite like Abraham but it is fairly grand which makes me unsure. As for whether it goes with DC1's name - I suppose it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things but personally I would like them to be vaguely the same 'type' of name. For me, it would seem slightly bizarre to have a Bram and a Kyle for example. Nothing wrong with either but very different.

It does sound like an apple but I like it!

JanePurdy · 08/01/2014 19:25

I think (although maybe wrong, am not an Afrikaans speaker) that Bram or Braam is a name in its own right - I've known two who had it as their full name.

TalkativeJim · 08/01/2014 19:24

There are surely a lot of names one could make out of Bram...

Bramley
Brammison
Bramarian
Bramold
Bramaunce

I know a baby Bramwell nn Bram, lovely name and lovely shortening.
