What's people's opinions?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Curlew, the reason I sort of like it is just because it's quite cute. But I would never use it other than as a nickname for that same reason! It would not be good for a grown man.

curlew · 07/01/2014 15:40

Can people who like it say why? Is it the sound? The meaning?

Fiveleaves · 07/01/2014 14:57

I know about 4 Sonnys and don't really like it either. It does seem like a nickname, like calling someone sweetie or matey. I also can't imagine an adult Sonny. I know a Herbie and a Buddy too and feel the same about those. Also a bit nickname-y.

Worse than truly awful, it is fucking dreadful and, IMO, tantamount to child abuse.
Ghastly.

GeordieCherry · 07/01/2014 14:53

I love it

Onesleeptillwembley · 07/01/2014 14:51

Awful, truly, truly awful.

curlew · 07/01/2014 14:47

Ok.
imagine yourself a young man trying to manage a group of older people. Would you find being Sonny a positive, a negative or a neutral?

Bowlersarm · 07/01/2014 14:47

Really dislike it.

I can't imagine a man being called Sonny.

Seriously uncool.

Imogenolivia · 07/01/2014 14:44

It's lovely. I've known a few little sonnys and never thought it to be an especially embarrassing or radical name. I really like it!

SS3J · 07/01/2014 14:32

I sort of like it. I want to like it, but it sounds too much like a nickname. Like Junior. It is what my son will be called if we don't ever agree on a name for him! I prefer Sunny, for a girl.

curlew · 07/01/2014 14:31

Wel, if you like the idea of calling your child the equivalent of "YoungFellerMeLad" or "Chickabidde" it's fine.

If you actually want to call your child a name that does not have the potential to embarrass him or make his life more difficult than it need to be, then choose a real name.

AwfulMaureen · 07/01/2014 14:28

I've always like it but it's become terribly popular.
