Family have put me off her name!

We decided on a name for DD which is Sophia Grace, however family etc Are putting me off it a bit by saying she will sound pretentious and why not Sophie Etc etc.

Normally I am not swayed by their opinions but I am starting to doubt whether it's such a brilliant name after all!! Helpppp. All views are most welcome- please both positive and negTive. Other dd is Isabella rose

Sophie is much less popular in my areas than Sophia. We love the name but have been out off as we know several under three - testament though to how lovely it is.

How is it pretentious? Half the baby girls I meet are called Sophia at the moment!

I don't understand why people run names past their friends and family before the baby is born. You need to present these things as a fait accompli otherwise you are naming by committee and that's never a good idea.

FWIW I do think Sophie is a nicer name and less trendy than Sophia.

Sophia's lovely. Not pretentious at all. I know a couple and I like it a lot.

So-fy-ah is the old, Germanic way of saying it isn't it?

Like Maria used to be commonly said Mariah (as in Carey).

Sophia Gardens in Cardiff is said the old way but I've never met a person who would say So-fy-ah in relation to an actual person.

We have a Sophia. I thought it sounded a bit more pretentious (or posh) than Sophie but to me Sophie is a delicate name, and the chances of me having a delicate child are zero. :o So I did have doubts but now she is over a year it suits her.

To me its pretty and feminine but it has a strength to it.

That child star would put me off using Grace as a middle name, but they do go really well together and I doubt she will be famous forever!

We pronounce ours Sophie-a. A lady called her so-fy-a the other day and it didn't sound right to me at all as we are so used to the other way.

I think Sophia is a gorgeous name, but I may be biased as I have one. We obviously have similar taste in names as her sister is Isabella!

I don't think it's too pretentious. Just a normal nice name.
Sadly it does currently just make me think of that irritating Essex child of Youtube/Ellen fame though.

I have Sophia Grace. Everyone comments on what a lovely name it is. She isn't pretentious at all.

Shock horror, DD2 will be Isabelle or Emilia.

Have a google for Sophia Grace Brownlee and you'll understand why I'm put off.

Not famous here really, but huge in the states as she is a regular on the Ellen Show and corresponds at major events like the Oscars.

Beautiful! I have a Grace so obviously love that! Sophia is a lovely name. I only know one (she would be 11). Sophie is nice too but I know loads.

The obnoxious Sophia Grace child from Essex who interview celebrities has seriously put me off this combination, but they are pretty names individually.

Ignore your family, Sophia Grace is lovely.

Prefer Sophia to Sophie.
