My friends think the name Harris is posh. What do you all think?

Oh and I'm in Scotland too if that makes a difference, I would put it in the same category as Lewis, Iona, Arran etc all nice normal names after Scottish Islands.

Don't think of it as posh or 'chav' and had no idea about any rude connotations! I just think its a lovely Scottish boys name, know of one and it was on my list....quite glad I didn't use it after seeing the replies on here Sad

I'm in Scotland too so maybe that's it, I think it's just a nice name.
names are perceived differently in different areas.

I don't think it's posh, or rough. I'm in Scotland so there is a few of them around, it's very nice.

oh no! this is my favourite name if DC2 is a boy. DH thinks it's posh but I think it's a good Scottish name!

Yes, sorry, just makes me think of the slang for arse. Not posh, just normal in Scotland with rude connotations in some other places.

I love the name, if DC2 had been a boy that would have been his name. It's great. It is rising up the popularity charts quickly though in Scotland (because it's a fab name!) I know of three born this year though but that wouldn't have put me off - its lovely.

So if yiu like the name - with it's non-posh connotations - then go for it

I like the name. I'd be put off using it for a while though because of the recent allegations against a famous man with the same name, as that's who i immediately think of.

I don't think it is a posh name, but it is also not rhyming slang for arse (that would be 'aris': Aristotle - bottle/ and glass - arse).
