Names I can't use

HowAboutNo · 30/12/2013 12:07

This is going to be easier than just asking for names. I posted yesterday but need more inspiration from the experts here.

Not due for a while but need to believe this baby is happening, so I think a short list of names should help me. I'm having a girl.

I can't use the following names because they are family/friends etc:

Erin
Sophie
Evelyn
Amelia
Olivia
Natalie
Rose
Amy
Jane
Arabella
Belle
Lola
Grace

I want a name that is easy for me to say. For example, I like Olive but no one else does! DH is obsessed with nns and likes Cecilia (nn Cece) which is nice but I'm not sold. Lydia was suggested and is lovely, but still not the one.

How would you pronounce Elise?
E-lease
or
Ellis?

Jolay100 · 15/01/2014 09:54

Eadie- love it

DisneyAddict88 · 13/01/2014 22:07

we had these on our list

luna
alana
elena
lyra
faye
lola
demi
lucy
jasmine
kiara
Charlotte (loved lottie as a girly nn but if tomboyish charlie)

we preferred shorter names overall - however both dds ended up with nicknames longer than their actual names!!

florascotia · 13/01/2014 21:46

If you are still thinking about Cecilia but don't like Cece as a nn, then the north Dutch/north German/Scandinavian nn for Cecilia or Celia is 'Silke' (SIL-kuh or ZIL-kuh).

I have an Esme (pronounced Ez-mee)

Everyone comments what a beautiful name it is

HowAboutNo · 02/01/2014 17:38

mum2jakie · 01/01/2014 22:15

What about Eloise or Elspeth? Esme is quite popular at the minute.

I have an Esmé (esmay) you should go with that :)

almapudden · 01/01/2014 01:47

Ohhhh use Esme! It's so pretty, but not too frilly, amd it's also fairly unusual without being weird. It's basically the perfect name! (can you tell I'm really broody and over thinking the name business?!)

TobyLerone · 31/12/2013 14:53

Elise and Esme are lovely.

HoneyandRum · 31/12/2013 14:31

I think Elise is actually lovely and hardly used.

HowAboutNo · 31/12/2013 12:46

Esme (ez-me) has really grown on me. Also like Anna, Tessa, Elise, Cecily and Persephone.

DH is being difficult but likes Elise and Esme. I just wish he'd be a bit braver!

I agree with sleepdodger Persephone is gorgeous but I would use the NN Sephy.

My suggestions are:

Persephone - NN Sephy
Otillie - NN Tilly
Harriet - NN Hettie
Araminta - NN Minty
Penelope - NN Nellie

These are all on our name list and have gorgeous NN potential.

Congratulations HowAboutNo!! I still have a while to go but it's never too early to start getting an idea.
