Pax, short for Patrick?

What do you think of Pax (Latin for peace)? Do you think a Patrick could have Pax as a nickname?

(Disclaimer: I'm not pregnant, just being weird and enjoying compiling short list for future imaginary son!)

Ooh fun debate. My son is Patrick and his nickname is patpat, so named by his older brother who was too little to pronounce Patrick when he was born. The name patpat has stuck (despite it being completely ridiculous) and we all love it. I like tricky too, but I agree with other posters...nicknames need to evolve naturally.

I used to know a Pax short for Paxton, many years ago. He was quite cool.

Yes, I agree with curlew. You don't get to choose your children's nicknames.

I know an Andrew in his 40s, universally known as Teddy because his teacher put the bear he'd drawn on the wall with his name underneath it when he was in reception.

I don't understand why people think they can impose shortenings or nicknames- the wider world and the child himself will have other ideas. So if you love a name that has a shortening you hate, don't choose it. Because it is certainly be the version you will hear shouted across the football pitch every Saturday for the next 10 years......

I agree with onesleep. Nicknames evolve when you start building the relationship with your child. DD's nickname isn't related to her name, it's a name I used for her when she was a baby and it has just stuck...I didn't intend to be using it when she was 4, but it's just happened that way.

If you like Pax, use Pax.

Use it as an actual name, not a nn, if you really love it.

Diggory is lovely, but would never have had the courage to use it!

I know that grammatical gender is unrelated to actual sex. But Pax is a 3rd declension feminine noun. I don't think I'd go for it.

Rex for richard too. Patrick is a great name. Paudge is dreadful. Pax way better. Know an elderly patch. Patch and pax not miles apart (phonetically)

All names for the Patricks I've known.

I knew someone who was "Patch" short for Patrick.
Never heard Pax as a nickname and I know a lot of Patricks - Pat, Paddy, Patsy (yes really Grin)
