Poppy, has it risen to #5 in popularity?

Hi there I was looking at the Bounty baby names list for 2013 yesterday and Poppy was ranked at #5. Is this a ranking from the bounty website or is that the ONS data does anyone know? Poppy is becoming a contender but I would be a bit gutted if I ended up picking another uber popular name.

The ONS data won't be out until around October.

Bounty stats are usually quite unrepresentative of the official data. Poppy IS very popular though.

I've never actually met a Poppy in my life! I love the name, and if it is popular, then it's popular for a reason.

BunnyLebowski · 03/01/2014 13:39

It's very popular where I am. And I really don't like it. Sorry Kaekae Blush

It's so unbearably twee and saccharine. And Pops as a nn seems quite popular here which makes me cringe.

Needless to say you won't have any competition for the name from me if this baby turns out to be a DD Grin.

I thought poppy had been popular for years. Blame the Oliver's!

My DD is a Poppy, four years ago I didn't know one. Now I hear it everywhere where we are in Surrey. It has gone crazy just like the name Oliver. Going to a theme park is a nightmare, I am constantly turning around. If I had my time again I would go for Ivy or Violet.

I know 4 little Poppy's... (Surrey) and a pregnant friend is considering it if her baby is a she.

I think it's crazy popular.

Thanks both, I'm going to stop thinking of names now until we meet her in two weeks!

It's becoming very popular unfortunately. I always loved Poppy Harriet as a name but we don't have Poppy on our list anymore due to an increase in popularity.

However if you really love it don't let 'Most Popular Baby Names 2013' put you off as Baby names are a very personal choice and it is extremely unlikely your child will know any Poppies when at school etc.

Lebkuchenlover · 28/12/2013 22:15

I don't think the official data are out yet - the year isn't even over yet!

Personally I don't like Poppy and don't know any little ones so wouldn't say it is very popular.
