And our fave names are Kitty,Posy and Lola.

I know they are all cutesy but thats the kind of names we like.I have 4 others but they all have quite different names so no point putting their names as theres no theme anyway.

Although it might be worth mentioning i d have a Tabitha,so a tabby and a kitty might be too feline, but i dont mind that really.

Im not sure about Lola,I really like the way it looks and sounds but i cant help thinking it might be a bit (sorry its that word)......chavvy?

The way I think about names is that unless they hate it so much that they legally change it (which would be sad because they'd be rejecting the name you chose) the child will have that name forever. So you have to pick a name which will suit them not only as a little girl but when they're 30...40...50...

You also want them to be able to become whatever they choose in life. They might be the head of a big multi-national business someday, and will need to be taken seriously. You never know! It would be nice if the name allows them to define themselves. Of course, the final choice lies with you, baby names are a delicate subject! So I hope this doesn't offend.

Have you considered names which can be shortened, like Katharine (or other spelling variants) which can be shortened to Kitty? If she were technically Katharine/Katherine/Kathryn/Catherine, then Kitty is a recognised pet name or shortened version of that, and you could call her Kitty from the start. That way if she prefers to be Katherine at work when she's older, she can be, but she'll be known as Kitty outside work because she always has been! It's just like Sam for Samuel or Tom for Thomas.

It would be harder to do that for Posy (have you considered Penelope/Penny for short? It's got the same sweet appeal), and I know what you mean about the name Lola, although I'm sure there are many Lola's out there who don't fit that description. It's a matter of preconceptions. I know people who hate their names because they feel people make up their minds about the sort of person they are without knowing them. The first gift you give to your child is life, the second is a name they will probably have forever. Choose wisely, and all the best with the baby.

I don't think you can have Kitty with Tabitha, sorry. In my class one year I had two Kittys, a Felix and a Rex - all nice names but put together I felt like I was working in a pet shop!

Posy is cute. Not sure about on an adult but I don't know that it's really a short for anything. I know one and think she is just Posy. It will probably come to seem as normal as Poppy and Lily have so will be fine.

I don't really like Lola. Not sure why I think it's the combination of 'oh' and 'll' sounds.

If you like names in that vein have you considered (as either short versions of other names or standalones):
Annie, Abbie, Allie, Bonnie, Bessie, Betsy, Bronte, Brodie, Bridie, Briley, Cassie, Callie, Carrie, Casey, Chloe, Demi, Darcey, Dixie, Dulcie, Ellie, Evie, Edie, Esme, Elsie, Florrie, Georgie, Gracie, Hallie, Hayley, Honey, Holly, Hebe, Indie, Ivy, Jessie, Josie, Jody, Kaylie, Kerry, Kelsey, Kenzie, Lily, Libby, Lottie, Lexie, Lacey, Livvy, Lindy, Lizzie, Molly, Millie, Macie, Miley, Marley, Marnie, Maddie, Nancy, Poppy, Polly, Peggy, Penny, Rosie, Ruby, Riley, Sadie, Shelby, Sydney, Susie, Sally, Sylvie, Tilly, Tansy, Trixie, Vicky, Wendy, Xanthe, Zoe.

Don't think you can have Kitty with Tabitha.

Dislike Posy.

I like Lola best, the only one I know has very cool parents and I would never in a million years think of it as chavvy.

Sundaedelight · 07/12/2013 11:59

Lola - so chavvy here. Was cool a looooong time ago. I would personally steer clear but then I am not a fan of any of the Leah/Lacey/Lexi/Layla names as find them all a bit chav.

Posy and Kitty are adorable, Posy could be a name on its own. A baby will grow into their name and the name will grow up with them.

LaVolcan · 07/12/2013 12:16

Posy could have come from Rose: rosy posy.

IsabellaRockerfeller · 07/12/2013 12:34

Kitty is the only one of those names I like.
But I don't think it works with Tabby cos of the cat connection.

Really dislike Posy cos it sounds like posing.

Lola is a very very common name round these parts.

There are some lovely names in manic's list.
I particularly like Marnie, Tansy, Nancy and Chloe.

Tikkamasala · 07/12/2013 12:47

I agree it could be nice to use a long form name with those as the nicknames, if you are worried they are not substantial on their own.

Katherine - kitty
Josephine - posy
Louisa, laurel - Lola ?

Frontdoorstep · 07/12/2013 14:07

I don't think you can have a Tabby and a Kitty tbh, both nice names but I'm having a giggle to myself at hearing someone call out to a Tabby and a Kitty. I think a lot of people will find these two together quite amusing.

Lola is a nice name but the problem with it is the song by the Kinks. Perhaps younger people won't be familiar with the song, having said that my 12 year old knows the song.

Posy is nice, I don't see a problem with it.

apocketfulofposy · 07/12/2013 16:44

I dont worry about them not having longer traditional full names tbh,i find that a bit old fashioned and i think they will just grow into their names or the other way roundso them not suitng them when they are 40 doesnt bother me,it either will or it wont!

Posy is a name in its own right,it means a small bunch of flowers,a posy of flowers.

Dh liikes Posy the best,Po for short,Po makes me think of teletubbies but not many kids will have hear dof that by the time she is old enough.

I like the name Lola. I know several. I wouldn't call their parents chavvy at all. And I really don't find it as cutesy.
Best of luck!

FetaCheeny · 07/12/2013 17:13

I love Posy, Kitty is nice but maybe not with Tabby, dislike Lola. Primrose shortened to Posy would be nice, just throwing that out there!

CordeliaRose · 07/12/2013 17:14

I love the name Kitty - and I think it would be sweet to have Tabby as a big sister! Posy is lovely too. Thanks

LadyFlumpalot · 07/12/2013 17:18

I wanted Tabitha desperately for DD!

I liked Milly as well but DH said that was too cutesy so we settled on Emily so I can still call her Milly (or Emmy) for short.

Also, how about Freya?

Frontdoorstep · 07/12/2013 18:58

I think if you like Posy, it is fine to use on it's own, as you say it is a name in it's own right.

I wouldn't call someone a longer name like Primrose and then always shorten it to Posy. If I wanted Posy I'd just go for Posy.

I like the Kinks song too.

WhispersOfWickedness · 07/12/2013 19:03

I like Posy best out of your choices Smile
It makes me think of the youngest Fossil in Ballet Shoes Smile
