but dh hates it..what might be an acceptable alternative?

And familing any acceptable alternatives what's a good middle name to go with Winston because if dh doesn't come up with even one alternative or like anything I mention I will name it bloody Winston anyway

Ambrose?

I knew brothers called Winston and Ambrose (they were old).

Winston is a great name!

Also like Casper, Quentin and Austin. Good luck!

There's always one Wink

I like a lot of the names on everyone's lists and they've all already been vetoed down such as
Quentin
Tristan
Jasper
Theodore
Walter

Fuck it. Ive done all the work so far naming kids. I give up. Dh has 12 weeks to get his act together and find a name he likes otherwise I will pick the middle name probably stolen from this thread and Winston as first name.

There's a reason it's underused Grin

shoobidoo · 03/12/2013 09:45

But the op DOES like the name Winston and is asking our help to find similar names!

Personally I think Winston is a great name, very cool, classic and underused. How about Reuben, Quentin or Tristan?

sonlypuppyfat · 03/12/2013 07:52

That's very true I don't!!!

SS3J · 03/12/2013 07:36

Sonly, we are trying to suggest names that are similar to Winston, so if you don't like that one you probably won't like any of them!

sonlypuppyfat · 03/12/2013 06:05

What is this a thread about awful names? There's not a nice one here. I really don't understand this old man name thing at all.

Astarael · 03/12/2013 05:27

I know a baby Wilfred known as Wilf - he is super cute!

The Winston I know has brothers Raphael, Michael and George.

Bunbaker · 02/12/2013 20:05

"bunbaker, so he was a good sort of cat though?"

The absolute best. I wept buckets when he had to be put to sleep.

ToffeeJungle · 02/12/2013 19:39

Jefferson
Theodore
Maurice
Walter
Ernest
Ledley
Victor
Moses
Bernard
Wilfred
Albert
Alfred
Francis
Jasper
Casper
Phillip
Jeremy
Rory
Lionel

SS3J · 02/12/2013 17:52

Oh no! My DP is very similar with names actually, it is very frustrating! How about Kingston, Wilson, Winter, Wilder. All a bit 'out there' but you never know!

ChicksyBurtVonnugget · 02/12/2013 17:49

Winston is awesome.
Maybe Marlon is as kind of similar, Keith Richards has one!

PleaseJustLeaveYourBrotherAlon · 02/12/2013 17:45

bunbaker, so he was a good sort of cat though?

OP posts:
Bunbaker · 02/12/2013 17:43

I used to have a cat with that name so I can't think beyond a beautiful, very loving black cat. So, it's a no from me.

PleaseJustLeaveYourBrotherAlon · 02/12/2013 17:38

I think he is trying to rationalize not being rational ifyswim? He probably just doesn't like it and doesn't want to look like he is being a pita. We actually very nearly named ds1 William!

If this baby is born nameless I absolutely will go down and register him as a Winston, with or without Dh.

He's really winding me up as he doesn't look for names himself and then blocks every name I like. I had this with the previous 2 and Im sick of it.

OP posts:
SS3J · 02/12/2013 17:27

No more than they would William, and that is a very normal name! Maybe try that argument?

PleaseJustLeaveYourBrotherAlon · 02/12/2013 17:21

I like Wilfred/Wilf.. dh says people will call him Willy...

Surely not people over the age of 8?!

OP posts:
SS3J · 02/12/2013 17:17

Wilfred (Wilf/Fred), Spencer, Aston?

PleaseJustLeaveYourBrotherAlon · 02/12/2013 17:15

Thanks Lynette I like Percy but we've already got a distinctive name from Harry Potter and might look like I have a thing if we go for it..
