Name suggestions for a special baby boy

I am currently 24 weeks with my 2nd baby. My daughter Amia was sadly stillborn in 2010. I love that her name is not very common (I've never heard of another Amia!) and I'd love for her little brother's name to be unusual too, but without being too 'out there'.

I love names like Finlay, Dillon, Alfie, Theo, etc but they are, for me, too popular. OH likes Aaron and Foster. I like Joel and Arlo but we've not agreed on a name.

His middle name is Richard as it's a family name on my side (brother, uncle, grandad, great grandad and great great grandad) Surname is Geaney. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Arnia is a beautiful name.

How about Oberon, Everard, Fabian, Gilbert, Joshua (although I think this is getting very popular), Ruan, Stuart?

sonlypuppyfat · 20/12/2013 16:52

Joel is really lovely.

Amiasmummy · 20/12/2013 16:50

Thank you so much for all the suggestions. Although it's a lovely thought, I'm not really looking for a name similar to my daughter's. We have only been able to agree on 3 names so far.. Joel, Aston and Vinnie. I still love Arlo and think it sounds good with the middle name and surname, but OH hates the name.. Never mind eh!
I'm especially liking the suggestion of Devin as a name, as we could have Vinnie as a nickname! Grin
StupidFlanders I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your daughter Thanks

Lief, has the meaning 'beloved' same as your daughter which might be nice. It's unusual but not out there.

diddl · 17/12/2013 11:20

If you wanted a similar name to your daughter's, there's Amyas or Amadeus.

Arlo is great & I think it goes well will Richard tbh.

StupidFlanders · 17/12/2013 01:25

After our stillborn daughter we decided on Rex.

IHeartKingThistle · 17/12/2013 01:04

Love Joel and Asher. It might be nice for your children to share an initial.

So sorry about your baby girl.

ZenNudist · 17/12/2013 00:51

Sorry for your loss. Prob too similar but there's an Amari (boy) at nursery.

Might be too unusual for you - but Amitola is a boys' name meaning rainbow, and also has echoes of Amia?

I know an Arlo (Lee Mack's son) and he is a lovely and smart boy.

it's a fairly rare name I think, before we met him I never even heard the name!

it's really hard to find a good name you both like.
fx for a healthy baby

Amiasmummy · 01/12/2013 08:31

tsw I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your son. Best wishes for your current pregnancy Thanks

Thanks everyone for the brilliant name suggestions. Arlo is still my favourite but OH hates it... Gaaargh!
I also like Elijah, Drew, Ezra, Xander.. But OH not keen on these either. I love Asher, not run that one by OH yet.
Been browsing the net for more names and have found Ashlan, Rowan, Davin (love Vinnie as a nn), Farrell... Still like Joel as well... This naming malarkey is so hard!! Lol

Amia- how beautiful. What about Asher, Beau, Sky?

tsw · 29/11/2013 19:26

So sorry for your loss - I lost my full term son in March & am pregnant too.

Matthew - means gift from god. I considered it for my rainbow & am completely not religious. :)

PoppadomPreach · 29/11/2013 17:27

I'm so sorry, OP, my previous post was terribly brief - I was a bit distracted.

I'm so sorry for your loss - my best friend went through a similar experience last year and I have had a glimpse of how utterly devastating it is.

I wish you all the best

There's some great suggestions here, thank you! And thank you so much to those who have offered their condolences and complimented Amia's name. This pregnancy is both exciting and terrifying. I just can't wait for my little boy to be safe in my arms.
