All by itself too Wink

scrumpkin · 27/11/2013 00:34

Nell is the most beautiful name in the world Smile

comemulledwinewithmoi · 26/11/2013 22:20

What about iris or violet?

SecretRed · 26/11/2013 22:14

I adore the name Nell, it's lovely.

comemulledwinewithmoi · 26/11/2013 22:05

Have you thought of Mabel?

comemulledwinewithmoi · 26/11/2013 22:03

Love them both but agree Nell doesn't seem to be a full name plus nelly puts me off. Lois.

Frikadellen · 26/11/2013 22:01

Lois because I have known 3 in my life and they are all utterly lovely.

I don't know any Nells so no nice feeling there (Don't hate it but nor do I think ohhhh)

MrsT2007 · 26/11/2013 21:52

My Lois somehow ended up with the nickname Lois Lollipop....& now gets called Loll or Lolly quite a lot Hmm

SicknSpan · 26/11/2013 20:59

Love Nell. It's top of our short list for gestating dc3! Eleanor would be my choice if having a big name to shorten it.

Lois is a very adult name I think. Can't imagine it on a little girl. (Plus it is v similar to both my name and Ds2 so would cause massive confusion in our household!)

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/11/2013 18:46

I love Lois!! Not keen on Nell or any names which it may be short for. Very harsh sounding name.

But if course they are merely my opinions and your baby to name so choose what you feel you like best it doesn't matter what we think :)

Minty82 · 26/11/2013 18:43

I love Nell (as a shortening for Helena or Eleanor; not on its own). Lois is very American to me - not that that's a bad thing, but Nell seems a more natural choice for a British child somehow!

Arcadian · 26/11/2013 18:04

Haha, I agree on Melissa! She gave me nits as a child!

stinkingbishop · 26/11/2013 17:14

They're both fab.

Can I also suggest Mallory? Just heard it on the radio last weekend and kicked myself for not using it. Has the whiff of jolly good japes about it like Lois and Nell, and similarly not too girly. But still pretty.

squoosh · 26/11/2013 17:11

Ha! Kim to me says 'cool arty girl'.

Melissas on the other hand....................well they're a bad sort.

Arcadian · 26/11/2013 17:00

Absolutely agree.

Every Kim I've ever known has been a massive bitch, for example!

squoosh · 26/11/2013 16:58

Interesting, I've only known two but they were both quite dowdy women, so that's how I see the name. People you meet definitely colour your perceptions.

Arcadian · 26/11/2013 16:54

Yes squoosh... Every Lois I've ever know has been a fashion journalist... (4 btw) and they were all certainly those things.

I love the name. The Superman connection is very cool.

AndWhenYouGetThere · 26/11/2013 16:51

Nell is my favourite. Helena, Eleanor or Penelope, but Nell. Not Lois.

Weegiemum · 26/11/2013 16:50

Neither, but I'd go for Helena at a push.

mewmeow · 26/11/2013 16:47

love lois.
Nell not so much.

ViviPru · 26/11/2013 16:35

love them both

squoosh · 26/11/2013 16:20

Lois, edgy and elegant? Goodness.

Arcadian · 26/11/2013 16:16

Lois is gorgeous, elegant, edgy and all vintage 50s sounding.

Nell is awful, and I just hear the elephant song.

MrsT2007 · 26/11/2013 13:55

I have a Lois. Clearly I love it; feminine but not girly, strong name.

Nell was on our list too but as a derivative of Eleanor

squoosh · 26/11/2013 12:11

Nell.

Lois is a bit small town American circa 1971.
