Hannah?

Hiya I'm very early days pregnant but as my son was nameless until 5 weeks I thought I'd start thinking early lol.

What do we think of the name Hannah? I like it but don't know if it's a bit plain and 80s born baby? I'm an 80s baby and know lots of Hannahs.

Also surname is H do we love or hate alliteration names?

Finally can I have a Hannah if I already have a Noah? Bit of a mouthful and matchy maybe?

I think it's lovely, is fine with Noah and I'm a fan of alliteration!

Jemma1111 · 27/11/2013 06:08

I don't think it goes with Noah either , how about Hayley ?.

wonderwomum · 27/11/2013 05:35

It's a lovely name. It was at the top of my 'girls list' all throughout my pregnancy. I think Noah & Hannah sound good together but it doesn't matter what anybody else thinks.... If you like it, go for it!!!! xx

MummyBeerest · 27/11/2013 04:55

Love the name, but not with Noah or an alliterative surname.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 27/11/2013 04:01

I have a Hannah. She also has an H last name. They sound great together. Other than my grandmother after whom she is named I've not met another. My Hannah is 12.

Ham69 · 25/11/2013 18:41

Lovely classic name and nothing wrong with it at all alongside Noah. I'm a fan of alliterations too and would go for it, especially if you can find an R middle name you like!

Ilovekittyelise · 25/11/2013 13:37

i dont love it or dislike it, just wanted to add that i do think the "how it sounds with the sibling name" is an irrelevant concern, unless your children plan on becoming a pop duo together! in reality the only time the names are "together" is things like christmas cards, and husbands and wives are rarely card perfect together, children are individuals in my opinion, and dont need to "match".

re alliteration im of no strong opinion unless your surname is something like "hoe" which has clear bullying potential.

i agree with all the comments, anything makes a refreshing change from the done to death avas etc.

NeatFreak · 25/11/2013 13:25

My newborn is hannah so i think its lovely

randdom · 25/11/2013 13:11

I think it is a lovely name :)

Iwaswatchingthat · 25/11/2013 07:20

Gorgeous and fine with Noah too. Go for it!

janey68 · 25/11/2013 07:16

Beautiful name. And certainly not over popular... Dd has one among her friendship group (age 15) and I know one pre schooler but there certainly aren't millions of them.
All the babies round here tend to be Ava, Evie, Tilly....
The other thing is that Hannah is one of those names which will work brilliantly at every age, from baby to teenager to adult, unlike a lot of names which can sound too cutesy

Mrsindecision · 24/11/2013 20:31

According to the ONS stats, there were just over 1300 Hannah's born in 2012 (around 1500 if you include the name "Hanna") and just under 730,000 live births. I think you'd have to be pretty unlucky to have 20 in a class at school!!

phlebas · 24/11/2013 20:21

I love it :) the only Hannahs I know are in their late teens, I don't think it is overly popular at all.

Don't think there is any issue with Noah & Hannah either.

houseisfallingdown · 24/11/2013 19:50

2 in DD's entire primary school and haven't come across any at playgroups etc- all Ava's and Evie's around here.
Lovely name Grin

"Hundreds of them round here......."
"one of 20 at work/school......"
A bit of an exaggeration I think!! GrinGrinHmm

Madamecastafiore · 24/11/2013 19:34

There are hundreds of them round here. They are known as; Hannah Jones, Hannah Cook, Hannah Green etc etc or you wouldn't know which one you were talking about.

SaucyJack · 24/11/2013 19:30

Don't do it. She will be at least one of 20 wherever she works or goes to school for the rest of her life. Ditto Sophie and Amy.

Bowlersarm · 24/11/2013 19:24

I like Hannah. But I don't like Noah and Hannah together.

KateCroydon · 24/11/2013 19:21

I know lots of excellent Hannahs

CogsworthAndJerry · 24/11/2013 16:38

I knew loads of Hannah's in the 80's, in fact one of my best friends was a Hannah and she was gorgeous so I think I might be a biased when I say I love it. It's one of my guilt pleasures, I love it but DH doesn't.

I don't think there are many newborns named Hannah so at least she won't be one of many in the class.

HoneyandRum · 24/11/2013 10:33

It fine also if you like a certain sound anyway. For example my mum liked names with a "th" sound so my bro and I both have that sound in the middle of our names. If you love it use it.

SoulTrain · 24/11/2013 07:02

Hannah is a great name, saying you've never met a nice one is stupid. People aren't nice because of their name. My sister is a Hannah and she's as fabulous as her name. You rarely meet Hannah's but it's timeless and stylish. I would definitely use it if DSis wasn't called it.

If you say Hannah and Noah it's fine but saying Noah and Hannah (which I assume you would if he's older) sounds a bit of a mouthful but not ridiculous. I don't think the issue is with your surname beginning with H, but how it sounds IYKWIM? For example, in my opinion, Hannah Howard sounds good, a name you'd remember and the alliteration works nicely but Hannah Harry is a bit wet. You need a good strong sound in there to balance it out a bit.

HoneyandRum · 24/11/2013 06:13

I thing Hannah is beautiful and underused, she will definitely standout in a lovely and classic way against the sea of Olivia's, Sophia's, Isabel's, Ivies, Ava's etc of her generation.

Devora · 24/11/2013 00:05

I like Hannah but Anna even more.

What about Julia, Lydia, Tessa?
