Oooh now I do love Juno...

Ruis is like the Spanish Ruiz. I would have assumed it was Portuguese or Catalan and pronounced it like that. Not very keen on it anyway, your others are better.

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 22/11/2013 11:11

Squoosh you know me better than I know myself. Grin

I do love Zephyr,I Do but yes, still mourning Rufus...I think the NN Zephy might get me through though Grin

I'm loving Juniper and Zephyr -ATM--

I've just emailed DP the short list- he's asked for meanings too so I've given them...
I've a feeling he'll not much like Caspars association with the bible, which might be helpful, actually,as its a bloody brilliant name...so I need a good reason (like DP not liking it) to rule it out,as the meaning/connection doesn't bother me quite as much.

I think with Ruis (roo-ish) you will have quite a few people pronouncing it wrong/ wrongly? when they first see it written. I would say "ru-ey" I think.
I like Rui as a name BTW and think it means little prince - so I guess that's quite seasonal too with the 3 Kings and the christ child. And it would still allude to the elder tree of winter solstice in some ways?

squoosh · 22/11/2013 11:01

Juniper has lovely nickname potential, June, Juney, Juno, Juju.......

I thought you were all set on Zephyr, why the hesitation now? Is it because you're still mourning the loss of Rufus?

I really feel I know the OP at this stage! Grin

givemeaclue · 22/11/2013 11:00

Yikes

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 22/11/2013 10:58

But I would go with Juniper from your list. So Caspar and Juniper from me.

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 22/11/2013 10:57

My 9 week old ds is Casper (spelt that way as otherwise my Dad said Cas-PAR). I wasn't sure even at birth, but I love it so much now. It's a great name. Helps that he is a fab, easy baby (my third too:)) He would have been Hetty if he'd been a girl.

WideScreenViper · 22/11/2013 10:54

Lol, you sure you not going to be here in 6m going, AAAARRGGH chose the wrong name Grin ?

FWIW I liked Otis but failing that, Zephyr is cool. Girls more difficult, Flora or Juniper I think do you have some more on your list ?

KitZacJak · 22/11/2013 10:54

Ivy or Asa for me.

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 22/11/2013 10:53

GIRLS:

Flora
Juniper
Clementine

BOYS:

Zephyr
Caspar
Ruis

Ooh 3 of each...I might be getting somewhere...

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 22/11/2013 10:49

Iris reminds me of Eyeballs.

OP posts:
UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 22/11/2013 10:49

I've never been happy with Skye's name,it's her name now,but if I could go back and change it,I would.

And yes,common/popular does bother me,possibly silly, but it just does.

OP posts:
UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 22/11/2013 10:47

The middle names could come from this list or the other insanely long list of middle names is have stashed away

I was just coming back to strike out Dulcie,as DP is Not Keen..

So,bye bye Dulcie Sad

OP posts:
elskovs · 22/11/2013 10:46

God I had no idea Flora and Ivy were popular.

Mind you Skye is quite common isn't it? Do you mind common?

Iris?

squoosh · 22/11/2013 10:46

Dulcie just reminds me of dulce de leche which y'know I'm fond of but is a bit too sweet for daily consumption.

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 22/11/2013 10:44

It's not the most unconventional list I've every seen. I know a sibset called Merlin, Elfjin and Phinnibus...

I agree with your deletions completely and would be bold and strike Dulcie too. It's too cutesy. I hear it as a Darcy/Tilly/Milly type name and they're everywhere atm. There are other much prettier D names like Delphine/Delphie, Dora (maybe Dorothea actually) but actually ignore me, no more adding names.

Are you picking first and middle names from these lists because in that case you only need to narrow it down to two until next week and your next thread on this and possibly three if you have two middle names.

squoosh · 22/11/2013 10:44

Juniper and Zephyr.

And here endeth the dilemma.

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 22/11/2013 10:43

I love Ivy too,but I don't love that its usage has doubled in the last year...

OP posts:
InfiniteJest · 22/11/2013 10:42

Aww you ruled out Ivy! I love Ivy! Out of your remaining girl names I'd choose Flora I think. Best boy name is Zephyr, love it Smile

elskovs · 22/11/2013 10:39

Oh you crossed off Otis... Then I pick Caspar.

elskovs · 22/11/2013 10:38

That must be the most unconventional list Ive read ever!

I wish Clementine was Celestine or Dulcie was Delphie and then Id pick one of those. (useless, sorry)

From your list, and based on your childrens names and your surname I pick Flora and Otis.

Really cool names acutally.

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 22/11/2013 10:36

showy Grin Grin Grin

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 22/11/2013 10:34

Right,I'm ruling these out as first names at least...

GIRLS:

Flora
Juniper
Clementine
Orietta
Ivy
Dulcie

BOYS:

Zephyr
Caspar
Ruis (roo-ish,meaning-elder tree-associated with winter solstice)
Asa
Otis

Seriously Frigg that's the best you can do? TWO off each list?!

Oh god,I'm talking to myself

OP posts:
ShowOfBloodyStumps · 22/11/2013 10:34

Oh and I agree about them not looking like a name. Both mine came out, I asked their names, just as you would with any other human and they had fuck all idea either. They looked blankly at me and then pooed and/or cried. My Mum soothed in hushed tones "what name does he look like?" He looks like a King Edward mother. As in, the potato. His presence on earth hasn't helped the matter a jot. This is why I let the 4yo name him after her favourite ninja turtle.

I've found over the years too that the old adage of 'loved is the child of many names' is very true. Mine have all sorts of nicknames and are rarely called their given name. Raphael calls himself Rapha, his Dad calls him Raph and I call him Roo (shortened from Rapharoo, to rhyme with kangaroo, look I was bloody tired for the first 8 months okay?). He is also called a thousand other embarrassing names including and not limited to Bubbles, Plonkydonk and Squigsy. In the end it didn't really matter which name I chose and in another 30 years I'll be running through a list of all male relatives before I get to his name anyway. My name in recent years, according to my mother is "Sue, Pat, Marg, Helen, bugger, which one are you?" I'll give you a clue, it's none of the above.

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 22/11/2013 10:31

I think that's why it IS so hard, this is the Last Baby.

I think your plan is a goodun though...strike outs rather than which is best...
It sucks that Ivy and Flora are so popular, but they are and there's no getting away from it.
I should just suck it up and accept it,and accept that that does bother me enough to rule them out Sad
