Do you still love your DC's name

Or would you pick something different if you could go back?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
wigglesrock · 13/11/2013 22:24

Yes, I've 3 daughters & each time I've had a name picked (boy & girl) at about 30 weeks & never really budged from it Smile

I just picked my favourite name each time, I didn't think to look if their initials did anything strange! Their names are popular but again that never bothered me.

AnyFuckerWillDo · 13/11/2013 22:23

Honestly no... My DD has a traditional unusual name, it's lovely and it suits her, she's grown into it but she often gets called the shortened version which is common. It wasn't my first choice.

My DS has an unusual "new" name, I would definitely change it and hugely regret it. It was weirdly my choice and I loved it at the time but peoples reactions have tainted it, to the point I find myself being abit embarrassed when people ask :( I am hoping he grows into it which of course he will x

MrsJohnDeere · 13/11/2013 22:21

Yes.

Love ds2's name much more than I did when I gave to him (was a family name rather than a name we wanted in its own merits).

ZeroTolerance · 13/11/2013 22:17

FriendlyElephant, "a little bit of me feels twattish when I talk about her"

GrinGrinGrin Sorry, but that did make me laugh.

Go on, what's her name? Give us a clue at least. I'm sure it's lovely Wink

Pooka · 13/11/2013 22:16

Yes - love the first names we gave all three dcs.

However, if I could go back I would maybe rethink dd's middle name to add one that I kind of kept back in case we had another dd. A family name that we didn't initially use because dd would then have been named with BOTH my middle names. Felt a bit egomaniacal at the time.

PenguinsDontEatPancakes · 13/11/2013 22:13

MrsDeVere - you don't 'know' me particularly, but I've seen you talk about your beautiful daughter. It is really lovely that your DS's have her name in theirs.

I love both my girls' names, but they are both still small. My only regret is that I wasn't slightly wilder with DD1's middle names.

jellybeans · 13/11/2013 22:09

Yes, all of them.

OrganixAddict · 13/11/2013 22:08

1 out of 3!

DD1's name is fine but a bit blah.

DD2 got the name I wanted to give dd1 but DH vetoed. I still love it but can't imagine it being DD1's name as it is DD2 now IYKWIM.

DD3 we were struggling to agree any name so picked the first one we both liked. Still like it but been told its chavvy. I don't care but suspect my mother does!

forgetmenots · 13/11/2013 21:49

Is it wrong that I'm so, so curious to know what some of these names are?

FriendlyElephant · 13/11/2013 21:34

Hmm... I love the IDEA of DD's name, I always have, but I still feel a bit odd when I say it. I think it's because people had mixed feelings about it when I mentioned it before she was born and now I feel like they're judging me for using it (although it's nothing ridiculous, just a bit old fashioned or a bit too posh-sounding maybe?). A part of me doesn't care, I think it's beautiful and she'll grow up to like it, but a little bit of me feels a bit twattish when I talk about her

PastaBeeandCheese · 13/11/2013 21:27

Yes. DD's name suits her down to the ground.

ListWriter · 13/11/2013 19:23

Yes, we both absolutely still love it (2 yrs on) and it suits him completely. I am slightly worried that if we had another child, how we would ever match it...

forgetmenots · 13/11/2013 19:06

I love his name (he is five months). We had real trouble agreeing on a boy's name and it was the only one we could genuinely both love. He suits it perfectly.

Still love both, although one has become massively popular and I wish it hadn't. If I had known it would be so popular I might not have chosen it, but I still love it and it now "is" DD. Also, I cant really imagine her as any of the other girls names we had on our list at the time.
We have twins (non-id) and I do sometimes try to imagine if they would have suited their names if each got the other - it was pure luck which got which rather than a question of feeling that they particularly suited the names the way round we gave them.

Minty82 · 13/11/2013 15:04

Still absolutely love DD's name - just trying to find a name for DC2 that I feel as sure of!

hawkmcqueen · 13/11/2013 15:03

Yes love my DC's names even though they are both popular. Neither of them could possibly be a different name. I love saying their names and am proud of their names, as I am very proud of them.

AllDirections · 13/11/2013 14:58

I have 3 DDs, 17, 13 and 6 and I still love their names.

Flyonthewindscreen · 13/11/2013 14:37

I would choose differently. I still like my DS's name but has been used as a girls name on Eastenders and I've realised the name has different connotations that the ones I was thinking of when choosing the name. I also still like my DD's name but it has become massively popular, and as we have a common surname, I wish we had chosen a more unusual name.

Mollydoggerson · 13/11/2013 14:36

Honestly No.

Both dc have nice names, lovely names in fact, but I might choose differently if I went back in time. No big deal.

DC1 has a traditional Irish name and while I like it and I think it suits his traditional Irish surname and flows well together, I realise now that if he travels in the future he might have to explain it. It might not carry over as well to other nationalities.

DC2 has a nature name and I still love it. DC2 is a very boyish boy and likes trucks and stuff, so his name is slightly softer than his personality. Again not a big deal at all.

You can't really go wrong with classic, easily idenitfiable names.

dimdommilpot · 13/11/2013 14:28

I love DDs (3) name. Chose it 15 years ago after hearing it on TV (rare at the time, more populare now) and still love it now.

GreatJoanUmber · 13/11/2013 14:26

Absolutely. DC are now 2 and 4 and I have never regretted choosing their names.
I've already found a boy name that I equally love this time; but no girl name. There are a few that I like, some I even like a lot, but none that I love like I love my DC's names. I hope we'll find one before DC3 arrives (or that it's a boy!).

Rockinhippy · 13/11/2013 14:17

Yes,

noddyholder · 13/11/2013 14:17

Yes and he is 19!

sebsmummy1 · 13/11/2013 14:15

Yep, love my boys name. Was pretty much the only name OH and I agreed on and I cannot imagine him being called anything else, we picked it in my second trimester.

We have already named the second child that I have yet to conceive lol. That's how prepared we are!!!
