Almost 26 weeks now and expecting a little girl. We seem to have settled on the name Meredith Emily, probably Merrie for short or Meg (as those will be her initials). I'm well aware the name Emily is very popular so wasn't keen to use it as a first name. Are there any pitfalls or openings for ridicule with this name that I haven't thought of?

I think it's lovely Grin

SugarMiceInTheRain · 14/11/2013 17:08

I've only ever heard it pronounced MER-eh-dith, never Merry-dith Confused but am not Welsh! I didn't realise there was any alternative pronunciation! Definitely keeping quiet til she's born and named :-)

How are you going to pronounce Meredith?

The Welsh way ? Mer-EH-dith
Or the American English way? Merry-dith

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 14/11/2013 14:50

Another thumbs up. If in doubt about your extended family's reaction, keep quiet until she's born. Smile

I absolutely love Meredith Emily!! I can't believe I somehow missed such a lovely name off my list. My list is blue now anyway but I'm going to add Meredith just in case!

RoadToTuapeka · 14/11/2013 03:57

Meredith is a lovely name. I have an aunt Merrie, (short for Meriel though) who is a wonderful lady so for me has nice associations. Merrie much better spelling than Merry which is just too, well, merry.

MiniMonty · 14/11/2013 03:06

No nightmares in store for a Meredith, Merry or Meg.
I'll say you're good to go.
It's a lovely name.

Mogz · 14/11/2013 02:57

What a pretty name, and a nice choice of nicknames too.

MummyBeerest · 14/11/2013 02:47

Great name!

extracrunchy · 14/11/2013 01:14

Thumbs up

PrincessKitKat · 14/11/2013 00:01

Merrie is gorgeous & Meredith very sophisticated and lovely as she grows up.

Viviennemary · 13/11/2013 23:57

An unusual name. Very nice indeed.

ems1910 · 13/11/2013 23:50

Absolutely beautiful!

CheshireSplat · 13/11/2013 22:36

Love Meredith. Used to work with someone with that name and Merry worked really well too.

daughterofafarmer · 13/11/2013 18:27

Really like it, good name.

Prefer spelling of Merry to the 'ie' however this is due to knowing 2 Merry's only.

halecromp · 13/11/2013 18:06

It sounds lovely

Minty82 · 13/11/2013 15:13

Beautiful - I've never met a Meredith in real life, lovely name. And no, can't see any points of ridicule!

SS3J · 13/11/2013 14:48

Yes, a good name! Meredith is traditionally a boy's name (Welsh I think), but I don't think many boys are called that now, it would be a bit cruel as mostly it is given to girls these days.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 13/11/2013 14:35

Thants - yes Emily as a middle name (I think having a double barrelled first name that long would be a bit challenging, especially when she starts learning to write her name!)

Visualise - never heard of any boys called Meredith though I did once know an African guy called Hyacinth! Confused

Thanks for the reassurance, I'm glad others like it. I refuse to discuss names with my extended family as they always try to ruin the names for me Angry
