Martha or Tabitha?

Love both - not too frilly, both biblical which I like, both work with our surname and DD1's name, and miraculously DH is equally keen on both. I just don't have one leaping out at me over the other - DH slightly prefers Martha, but good friends have already used it and while I don't think that rules it out completely, Tabitha would feel more 'ours'.

Any thoughts?

DH loved the name Tabitha but I couldn't get my head around it. Martha was always one of those names I liked & yet never made our short lists.

I prefer Tabitha. Why don't you waituntil she's born and see what fits her best x

Tikkamasala · 12/11/2013 22:44

Martha, love it. Tabitha is ok just not really my thing. Martha seems like the name of a kind and sweet person!

HoratiaDrelincourt · 12/11/2013 20:07

Before we knew DC3 was a boy I had Tabitha nn Kitty on my shortlist.

FloatingHandle · 12/11/2013 17:42

Tabitha

knittedslippersx3 · 12/11/2013 16:48

Tabitha. That was my second choice but I secretly wished I had used it.

DiamondsAndRust · 12/11/2013 16:46

Both are nice, but I absolutely love Tabitha.

buttercrumble · 12/11/2013 15:50

Love both Smile

Beeyump · 12/11/2013 15:49

Martha! I love that name!

Rhubarbgarden · 12/11/2013 15:45

I love Tabitha.

smother · 12/11/2013 15:03

Both lovely Smile

Tabitha has a lot of nickname potential, Martha not so many.

What would you prefer to be called yourself...? perhaps that's a useful way to think about it, perhaps not.

good luck!

Minty82 · 12/11/2013 15:02

It is! Am just a bit torn because of these friends who have a little Martha already - I don't think they'd mind, and she'd be a few years older than ours, and it's not as if we see a huge amount of them anyway BUT all my family and lots of my friends know them so it would feel a little copy-cattish. And I know an adult Martha too, but don't know any Tabithas.

By the way reeling just realised I think you've got me muddled up with Mintyy - who as far as I'm aware isn't pregnant...

Tabitha

Martha makes me think of Martha Stewart

hashtagwhatever · 12/11/2013 15:00

Tabitha

Repeatedlydoingthetwist · 12/11/2013 14:56

It's a lovely song isn't it?

Minty82 · 12/11/2013 14:43

Oh yes, I do know it but had forgotten it was called Martha. Beautiful.

Oh I'm a huge cat fan too, probably wouldn't put me off but I know it would with some people!

Spaghettinetti · 12/11/2013 14:43

Tabitha.

mrsWast · 12/11/2013 14:41

i have a tabitha. she's the only one at her high school.

martha is lovely though.

Minty82 · 12/11/2013 14:38

Ha, yes there is the cat thing but fortunately I like them!
Ooh, don't think I know the Tom Waits song... Off to YouTube...

Repeatedlydoingthetwist · 12/11/2013 14:35

I do like them both, but thanks to Puddle Lane Tabitha makes me think of cats whilst Martha makes me think of that really cool Tom Waits song. So Martha pips it for me!

Minty82 · 12/11/2013 14:33

Aw, thank you reeling - yes, 17 weeks so plenty of time yet to play with names...

Thanks MoonHare, yes, I'd thought about the popularity factor and in theory I've like to go for something not too overused but we totally ignored that with DD who has an incredibly popular name so I guess I'm not really that fussed. They're both a lot more unusual than hers, anyway!

LOVE both!

But am biased towards Tabitha - I have one.

Martha is gorgeous too but a lot more popular, depends if that bothers you. Tabitha is still outside the top 200 while Martha is within the top 100 (no.90 last year).

reelingintheyears · 12/11/2013 14:24

Prefer Tabitha, I didn't know you were preg Mintyy, congratulations!

Wallison · 12/11/2013 14:22

Martha. I spent time in S/Central America and met several exotically beautiful women of that name there, so I always associate it with glamour.
