Dp is trying to sell me his name choice and I reeeeally don't know. At the beginning I said no way in hell, but have to admit it is growing on me. It's Gustav. What do u think? We are Scandinavian origin so there is a link.
I just think people would laugh. But dp really loves it! I'm only 22 weeks pg so bit of time to decide. And it may be a girl! Just wondering what opinions are on the name...

I like it :)

NoComet · 08/11/2013 13:55

Given the Swedish connection it's great and I like Gus.
The one I know is in his 50's and lovely, so i can see a little cute baby Gus and an adult one, quite easily.

willyoulistentome · 08/11/2013 13:49

My first thought was Klimt.

I like it I think.

Velve · 08/11/2013 13:44

I love it, but then I'm a Finn so I'm biased.

Rhubarbgarden · 08/11/2013 13:17

I love it. But I'm biased - I have a Gus Smile

superlambanana · 08/11/2013 12:41

I quite like it. My first thought was Mahler Smile

sonlypuppyfat · 08/11/2013 11:45

Sorry people would laugh round here. Working class town.

Bigbrassband · 08/11/2013 11:43

I like it! Very cute and cool.

SuperMuddle · 08/11/2013 11:40

I like it. Especially given your Scandinavian origins. I like Gus as an abbreviation too.

tadado · 08/11/2013 11:40

It's a lovely name OP and a nice way to reflect your heritage,

MrsOakenshield · 08/11/2013 11:39

I like it, and with the Scandinavian link it makes sense (personally, I'm not keen on 'foreign' names where there's no link). And Gus is a good NN if you want one.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 08/11/2013 11:38

I like it. I's not a common name in the UK but no one is going to do a double take and say WTF as I'd say most people have heard of it in a forrin sort of way Wink

ivykaty44 · 08/11/2013 11:37

I find it a very harsh name

Indith · 08/11/2013 11:32

Unusual but not "is that really a name or did you make it up?" unusual. I like it.

exexpat · 08/11/2013 11:30

If you didn't have Scandinavian links, I'd think it was a tiny bit pretentious (but maybe still OK), but as it is, I think it's very cool - easy to pronounce, acceptable nick-name available (Gus), there definitely won't be five of them in his primary class...

Blatherskite · 08/11/2013 11:19

My first thought is the dead chef in Ratatouille.

Or Klimpt maybe.

Viviennemary · 08/11/2013 11:16

I'm not keen but it's a name I haven't heard except in books. But if you like it then you should go for it.

teaandbourbons · 08/11/2013 11:14

First thought was Breaking Bad, but that's probably just me. If you're Scandinavian I think it's nice. Gus is a cool nickname too.

Gustav is nice. Isn't the king of Sweden - Karl Gustav?

TheNunsOfGavarone · 08/11/2013 11:08

Love it! For a boy of course.....

badguider · 08/11/2013 11:06

Gus is quite a common nn here in Scotland (from Angus) so it would be shortened pretty soon.

StealthPolarBear · 08/11/2013 11:06

I would think it unusual but not in a bad way. Quite like it

KillerKoalaFaceFromSpace · 08/11/2013 11:05

I like it! Especially as you are Scandinavian as it might be a bit random (but still nice) otherwise.

elvisola · 08/11/2013 11:04

Oh ignore me - it's Gaston.
