Dp is trying to sell me his name choice and I reeeeally don't know. At the beginning I said no way in hell, but have to admit it is growing on me. It's Gustav. What do u think? We are Scandinavian origin so there is a link.
I just think people would laugh. But dp really loves it! I'm only 22 weeks pg so bit of time to decide. And it may be a girl! Just wondering what opinions are on the name...

I do like it and Gus as a nickname is very cool.

moas · 10/11/2013 14:20

Nice, I like it. We're in a similar situation as I'm Swedish but we live in UK. Expecting dc2. I like Gusten too but dh not too sure. My other favourites at the moment are Hilding, Alfred, Olof/olov and Tor. Already have a ds called Axel.

Lovely Grin

Catchhimatwhat · 10/11/2013 13:58

Yeah I like it!

Marli1980 · 10/11/2013 13:56

Very nic!

squoosh · 09/11/2013 20:14

I've never met a Gustav. When I think Gustav I picture an aristocratic, pink cheeked, round bellied, 18th century European military type.

It seems so incongruous for a little baby, but I would probably be secretly impressed, it's certainly a name with a lot of character. Gus is a cute and inevitable nickname.

Bluestocking · 09/11/2013 19:57

Why, thank you, Eugenesaxe!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/11/2013 16:30

The truth? I'd tell you it was sweet, but really I'd be thinking of a fat old man in his vest.

KeepTheCarRunning · 09/11/2013 14:01

Gustav's lovely! It goes well for a little boy as well as for a grown-up, and it's quite popular here (I'm in Denmark). OTOH, Lars and Søren, as mentioned by a PP would raise a few Hmm round here...

AuntyDiluvian · 09/11/2013 13:04

I love it. Gus is a great shortening and I love that it's a nod to the Scandi link but not difficult for others to pronounce. Do it!

DziezkoDisco · 09/11/2013 13:00

Love it.

BlessedAssurance · 09/11/2013 12:48

do not do name your girl child Gustav. I live and am married to a scandinavian and that name is alright for a boy, but a girl??.

However op your child, your rules..There are far nice scandinavian names out there so nope, not keen on Gustav on a boy either. It sounds harsh to me but hey, who cares..

funnyflowersky · 09/11/2013 07:09

I don't like it, but as it's a middle name and given your Scandinavian origins it would be ok. There are nicer Scandinavian names, Lars, Soren.

Levantine · 09/11/2013 06:56

Lovely!

EugenesAxe · 09/11/2013 06:47

Wouldn't have a problem with it myself. People call their children Cosmo after all; next to that it's quite normal.

No seriously it's not at all 'odd'. I think it's quite cool - bluestocking is obviously an intellectual so his/her approbation counts for a lot in my book.

Emmabombemma · 09/11/2013 06:27

I really like it Smile . And the nn Gus is also lovely x

Bluestocking · 08/11/2013 19:55

I love, love, love the name Gustav! And there are so many great Gustav/Gustave namesakes - Klimt, Courbet, Dore, Mahler, Holst, Eiffel - and of course the fabulous Gustavo Dudamel!

Oldandcobwebby · 08/11/2013 19:50

Fabbo!

QueenBoudicea · 08/11/2013 19:48

I actually really like it. Great pedigree, and love the NN Gus.

dogeral · 08/11/2013 18:25

Yika · 08/11/2013 18:11

Love it - classic and international. One of my favourite names!

omri · 08/11/2013 18:03

Will pronounce it normal scandi way... Didn't know there was any other way! Gustarve?! Eek! Should be pronounced like goostaf. Right?
