Naomi.

Do you like? Appreciate honesty!

What do you think when you hear it?

If you heard of a newborn called this what would you think?

Lovely name.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/11/2013 18:09

Yes, yes, yes. Biased.

Tattiesthroughthebree · 02/11/2013 16:16

I know a delightful Naomi who is almost three. The other Naomis I know are aged 24 and 18. It works well for all ages, I think - the writer Naomi Mitchison lived to be 101, and it worked for her as a very old lady.

cece · 02/11/2013 12:49

I've heard it pronounced Nye-oh-mee and Nay-oh-mee.

This.

PinkParsnips · 02/11/2013 12:40

I really like it...Its on our reserve list!

comeandgo · 02/11/2013 12:32

I like Nomes Smile

We have had lots of lovely reactions to it, mostly that it's classic without being too popular. Also, most people use the correct pronunciation but she does affectionately get called Nomes, but we like that so no problem.

OnePramAndHisSprog · 02/11/2013 11:10

Its sweet. Familiar but not really popular.

comeandgo · 02/11/2013 11:08

I don't think people would associate it with being Jewish though, not like Elijah for example.

atomicyoghurt · 02/11/2013 08:42

The other thing is it's a very Jewish name. I only mention this because I am not Jewish and we gave dd3 a Jewish name and I sometimes get some weird looks about it. Then again it could just be her name is a bit unusual. There's plenty of famous Naomis so everyone will have heard of the name.

atomicyoghurt · 02/11/2013 08:39

I like it, I know two Naomis who are both lovely. Both are known as Nomes!

The only thing is I know some people pronounce it Ny-o-me. How do you feel about that? I find it bloody annoying and it's not even my name!

RobinVanPrissy · 02/11/2013 08:35

Its a lovely name.

comeandgo · 02/11/2013 08:34

Those who have dd's with this name, do you mainly get a nice reaction?

Appreciate the honesty of everyone replying Smile

PatoBanton · 02/11/2013 07:50

Sorry, I just have never liked it. I have no idea why. There are so much nicer names out there.

steppemum · 02/11/2013 07:48

I love it, was on our list, but dh vetoed it (he is dutch and it doesn't work in Holland)

BlessedAssurance · 02/11/2013 07:39

Lovely name. It is my DD's middle name and people pronounce it differently, doesn't bother me one bit. DD knows how it's pronounced and doesn't care either when people say Naaaoomi:-) she is three and finds it amusing.

inaspotofbother · 02/11/2013 06:35

Lovely, beautiful name.

MrsApplepants · 02/11/2013 02:16

It's the best girls name ever and I love it more than any other! (You've probably figured out by now that it is my DD's name!)

Mellowandfruitful · 02/11/2013 01:14

I've never heard it pronounced with the emphasis NAY-oh-mi, always Nay-OH-mi. So that would seem odd to me. As a name it's unusual these days so there won't be 6 in her class. I think of kids I knew in the 70s when I hear it. That could be good or bad!

GideonKipper · 02/11/2013 01:01

I've heard it pronounced Nye-oh-mee and Nay-oh-mee.

LondonNightmareInGhostlyBoots · 02/11/2013 00:43

I think it is really really lovely. I also can't see how anyone could pronounce it wrong.Confused

GideonKipper · 02/11/2013 00:38

Makes me think of Campbell. I would be quite surprised hearing a new born had been called this.

Tikkamasala · 02/11/2013 00:33

Yes its a name I would like to hear on a baby and would think that's a nice and unusual choice that you don't hear much. It is pretty and a good honest name and I have known some lovely Naomi's.

comeandgo · 01/11/2013 20:53

I know there may be problems with pronoucation but I don't think its that big an issue.

Good to hear someone with a similar issue with their name feels the same.

OP posts:
SanityClause · 01/11/2013 16:30

Very pretty name.

FWIW, I have a name that can be pronounced a couple of ways, and that doesn't worry me in the slightest. I don't even bother to correct people most of the time.

The eccentric spelling is a different matter!
