Our number one choice for a boy is Rowan, but our surname begins with 'R' and is two syllables long. What is your opinion, does it sound ok or silly? I've thought of nothing but names lately and no longer trust my own judgement!

I wouldn't no. alliteration can work really well. Greta Gillespie - yes.
Sally Stone - yes. Moses Martin - no. Rowan Ryan - no.

I agree that Rowan Ryan sounds awful, but I think that might be due to them both ending in n (can you tell I'm desperately trying to rescue the name?!)

At the risk of outing myself, our surname is Roberts.

The only other strong contender is Noah, but that's far more popular and I wanted a name that is at least outside the top 50.

I think Rowan Roberts is fine, the kind of name you'd remember, in a good way. Much nicer than Noah Roberts.

I like Rowan Roberts - I think the sounds within the name are different enough.

I'm toying with an alliterative name for DC2 - Theo T..., but the surname is a hard 't' against the soft 'th' so it doens't sound awful (IMHO).

The main problem is that it is a tongue twister and if he has any speech problem at all, however mild, it will sound like Wowan Woberts.

My surname is R and I liked Reuben, DH said no way, what if the poor child had a lisp?

Oh no, I didn't even consider speech problems! It's the only name I've liked enough to use for months. Boys names are so difficult!

It's still the frontrunner. Alexander will be the middle name after family.

Thanks for all the replies! It seems liked more than disliked. Let's just hope he doesn't have speech problems or he'll be swiftly known as his middle name lol.
