My daughter was nearly Martha thanks to Tom Waits.

What songs have or could inspire you to name a baby after them?

Agree with Charles - Georgia on my mind is a goregous song don't think that anyone will remember that 1D one in years to come :)

ChutesTooNarrow · 19/10/2013 10:24

I had that from middle aged uncle types, msjupiter, with something called 'mother Kelly on the doorstep' and is possibly how I perfected Hmm face age 5.

There is the sublime 'Kelly watch the stars' by Air as inspiration now but of course Kelly is a dreaded k name that means I won't grow up to be a high court judge or something...

MsJupiterJones · 19/10/2013 09:01

K-K-K-Katie was not as funny as the hundredth person who sang it to me as a child thought it was.

Always middle aged uncle types.

CordeliaRose · 18/10/2013 21:44

Same with DS's name mckayz Hmm

Jas · 18/10/2013 21:31

Eloise - The Damned. I would have used it if it hadn't already been used within my close family.

Mckayz · 18/10/2013 21:30

My name is usually slated for be chavvy.

CordeliaRose · 18/10/2013 21:26

My name's on that list too, McKayz!
I love my name but it has been slated on these threads as dated and mumsy!

FarToGo · 18/10/2013 21:20

My little girl is Lyla.....

We've had lots of compliments on her name, but we never intended to name her after the Oasis song despite both being fans.
I really wanted a girls name that could be sung iykwim, and I have always bemoaned that there are NO songs with my name in!
I actually liked Lola but hubs liked Layla and in the background when we were having that convo Lyla was playing Smile T'was meant to be and it really suits her.

Cordelia, my DDs name is in your list. Never knew it was a song. Will have to youtube it.

I was very tempted by Layla, but everyone I mentioned it to started to sing it at me.

Mckayz · 18/10/2013 20:18

KChapper snap!!!

I love it and the song. But do get slightly fed up of people singing it at me.

Chelsea as in Chelsea Football Club? Shock At least it could be Chelsea in honour of the wonderful Chelsea Monday by Marillion. :)

charleslingus · 18/10/2013 18:37

Eh! I didn't say I would name my daughter after the song Polly, but that it made me like the name a hell of a lot more than I ever would have before hearing the song, being a nirvana fan and all...

Sometimes a name being in a song just brings it to your attention, even if the connotation is not great. Doesn't mean, you couldn't then use it if you so wished!

I would not name my daughter Polly anyway, it's far to uncomplicated and plain for me Grin

Frikadellen · 18/10/2013 18:12

HeirToTheIronThrone · 18/10/2013 18:03

I'd have Rhiannon or Marianne purely for the Fleetwood Mac/Leonard Cohen connections. Maybe middle name Sara or Gypsy for even more Mac :)

LauraChant · 18/10/2013 18:03

I think it is nice having a "song" for your name. My nana used to sing me "Birds in the trees seem to whisper Louise" - obv Laura is not my actual name... - , my sister got "come back to Erin" and my other sister "Amy Wonderful Amy".

13loki · 18/10/2013 17:54

My daughter is a Lola, and yes, I did know the lyrics. I'd rather her be Lola from the Kinks song than the bloody showgirl from Barry Manilow's Copacabana! Lola knows who she is and what she wants in the song. Although we had an interesting conversation with her older brother, who asked if Lola walks like a woman but talks like a man, does she have a penis?

LauraChant · 18/10/2013 17:28

Admittedly the song isn't the first thing that comes to mind but DH singing Sweet Baby James when I was pregnant is one of the reasons we went with the name.
