Is Robert dated or classic?

I don't think I know a small Robert. Is it a Steven/Kevin name, or a John/Andrew name?

A serious contender for DS3 due very soon, to be introduced as Robin.

Is Robin worse/better?

I like Robert- very classic.
Robin is a crappy sidekick, or a sort of wimpy, plays the violin very badly type child in my mind.
I have no idea where this stems from- I do not know any violin challenged Robin's but there you go. Absolutely not based on any scientific evidence. Grin

My DH who is 62 has Robert as a second name and I have a nephew who is 35 called Robert, it may be old fashioned but then George is going to come back in fashion sometimes it is nice to hear a name that is not the same as all the other babies.

I like Robert. I think it is classic. I don't actually know a small Robert but I don't think it means not classic. Know a few adult Roberts though (of varying ages) and all seem to like being called it.

I'd put it in the "can't go wrong" category with names like John/Andrew/Edward etc, though not sure that Steven belongs with Kevin!

I don't really like the name Robin.

Not sure I would say it isn't a boys name, as I'm sure it started as one. Might it have started as nickname for Robert anyway?

I prefer to Robert to Robin.
Although I don't know any small Roberts at the moment I don't think it sounds too dated tbh. I can imagine children and adults alike with the name and t seems to work fine for both imo.

I am not keen on the name Robin personally. I would say Robin is a boy, Robyn is a girl. Have the latter in our new Reception class.

Classic. Love it.

TheNunsOfGavarone · 14/10/2013 18:50

Classic.

Robin seems more like a girl's name to me. Robert. Hmm. I rather think it could grow on me. I think it's probably a bit dated and not quite classic. Has a slightly Scottish feel to me. More like Andrew than the other names you suggested. John is properly classic.
