As on other thread, we love Darcy/Darcey. Other favourites are:

Amelie
Lyra
Sky/Skylar

Would also love anything vaguely hippyish, what else is in the same vein do you think?

Bluechampagne - I know a Tamara who was originally an Annabelle. Her son (now about 22) is called Blue and her DD is called Sapphire (about 9).

suits them all. unsure why Tamara changed her name there is a story behind it.

MissDD1971 · 03/10/2013 19:17

and finally - I know a Rowan - little girl - her parents lived in middle of forest had business there - forget what her brother was called. It suited her.

MissDD1971 · 03/10/2013 19:16

I also know an adult Bidi and Isha (girl and boy). parents were hippies had their own guru etc.

the names really suit them though. Oh and I knew a girl called Fuchsia but then HER parents and family joined some guru (Indian) and Fuchsia was changed to some Indian name! LOL

MissDD1971 · 03/10/2013 19:14

Oh and I know 2 hippy kids recently born - forget the boys name something like Skylar which is ok, the DD is called another name (totally forget it but it can be shortened).

the parents are new age hippies so it really works for them though. and the mum's name is unusual but not too unusual (Chloe).

MissDD1971 · 03/10/2013 19:12

I know this sounds cruel but THINK CAREFULLY before you saddle your DC with a hippy or too unusual name.

My brother and i both have them and great though they are they have been a constant source of where are you from etc?!

also Moon Unit etc Zappa changed their names, Bowie's son changed his too... from Zowie I think.

Saying that I quite like:-

  • Hope (too much 30something viewing. Portia (but then worry people will think it's Porsche*)
  • Miranda (before the comedienne made it popular)
  • Tara

I do sort of wonder, are names like:-

*Ethel

  • Gwendoline (like that one, kill me now!)
  • Celia

etc in vogue or are they too old lady?

I quite like Dylan as a girls name.

DancingLady · 03/10/2013 11:55

OOh Seren, Willa, Astrid are all nice... I'm a bit Hmm about names that are too fairy-ish, as your DD will carry that name her whole life, even if she decides to become an all-in wrestler or a venture capitalist... :)

Something hippy-ish and free-spirited but strong, rather than like a flower fairy?
