What do you think of Elliot?

I like this name and am considering naming ds3, due Jan, Elliot. When I have mentioned this to some family members they pull a face while saying 'oh really? Er, that's nice'. What are they thinking that they haven't got the balls to say to a hormonal pregnant woman? Am I missing something?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Girl or boy? Although it used to be a boys name, I now know two small girl Elliots (plus Scrubs!), so think of it as more female.

stinkingbishop · 01/10/2013 07:58

I think it's lovely. Family will always be a bit odd about names. My MIL still can't pronounce Charlotte for lord's sake. She goes SharLOTTE very deliberately...

pegster · 01/10/2013 07:55

Love it but sadly too close to our surname so didn't/couldn't make our short list

Wriggers · 01/10/2013 07:49

Love it!

Tikkamasala · 30/09/2013 23:14

I really like it.

DurhamDurham · 30/09/2013 21:54

I love the name Elliot, we chose that for our first born if we had a boy (we had a girl) This was despite the fact that we lived in a street with the same name. We knew we wouldn't be living there for ever so were prepared to put up jibes about naming our child after the street we lived in.

TallulahBetty · 30/09/2013 21:50

I like it. How about Ellis? This was my favorite when pregnant.

littlemslazybones · 30/09/2013 21:27

Mamafratelli I can imagine that would be a hard sell if your dh was aware that it reminded you of the best looking man you had ever met Grin

Mamafratelli · 30/09/2013 21:21

Dh vetoed not she!

Mamafratelli · 30/09/2013 21:21

Love it but she vetoed it.

The best looking man I have ever met was called Elliot. :)

CleverOl10 · 30/09/2013 21:16

It's on my list! :) I haven't mentioned it to anyone yet though, as I can't decide if I love it, or just like it!

littlemslazybones · 30/09/2013 21:15

That's ok miffybun. I don't need it to be a universally loved name I just didn't want to burden this child with a universally disliked name.

I also love it and think it's not an easy name to pigeonhole. The woman in the medical series called Elliot has sparked this notion that it's a girl's name; however, I've met various Elliots IRL but they've all been boys. I think the use of it for girls is much more an American thing.

Oh, and who doesn't like ET? You monsters! Grin

miffybun73 · 30/09/2013 21:11

My post wasn't in response to yours OP. If you love the name then go for it. Naming a baby is a very personal thing and for any given name loads of people will love it and loads will hate it :)

miffybun73 · 30/09/2013 21:09

I'm afraid that it is my least favourite name ever, it makes me shudder.

Not really sure why exactly, but I hate ET and there was an awful boy at school who teased/bullied me called Elliott. (I know one other who is now 3 and is lovely, but that hasn't converted me)

Come to think of it those two reasons probably explain it.

littlemslazybones · 30/09/2013 21:07

Grin Don't suppose there's any chance you are my sister TeamJavert?

Lioncubs you are right. I was just making sure there aren't any axe-murdering Elliot's that has put people off or such like. I do think I'll stick with it.

getmeoutofthismadhouse · 30/09/2013 21:01

I love it. I wanted it for my ds' middle name .

TeamJavert · 30/09/2013 20:57

I think it's horrid. I hate the way it sounds. I detest E.T. Not sure if that's responsible for my dislike of the name.

Lioncubs · 30/09/2013 20:53

I mean if you like the name. Stop asking others now and just keep it for the arrival

Lioncubs · 30/09/2013 20:53

Love it. Don't get opinions from others if you like or it may make things confusing in the over hormonal state :-)

MummyBeerest · 30/09/2013 19:56

I love it. Was on my list if DD was a boy.

jenniferturkington · 30/09/2013 19:49

Love it. I wanted to use it but already have a Harriet and they sound too alike.

TooTryHard · 30/09/2013 19:47

It's not my style but I've always thought it was nice. I don't think it's cutesy either.

toobreathless · 30/09/2013 19:44

Love it.

littlemslazybones · 30/09/2013 19:28

Smart move TheApprentice. I don't know why I'm canvassing opinions this time around, I didn't feel the need to before. I think I will go with Elliot, I do love it.
