DH and I both love it but to been met with horror by our parents. Thoughts?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

You're naming a person not a Doberman.

Nickname/middle name - fine I guess

First name? No

I like an unusual name don't get me wrong but not this one.

DaleyBump · 29/09/2013 12:35

DP says "could she not just get a dog instead of a baby?"

TallulahBetty · 29/09/2013 12:21

Goodness, erm.. no. Sorry OP but no.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 29/09/2013 12:15

Love it, I know a 5 yo Spike and the name is great.

Onesleeptillwembley · 29/09/2013 12:12

OP if you're always so snippy I suggest you give your poor child a name that won't constantly raise eyebrows.

Writerwannabe83 · 29/09/2013 10:10

Wasn't that very strange guy out of Notting Hill called Spike?? Smile

Jakeyblueblue · 29/09/2013 08:40

It was a nickname for Milligan.

lchats · 29/09/2013 08:19

I knew a ring-tailed lemur called Spike - nice chap but did spit a lot Wink

I like it, Spike Milligan wore it really well....

kiwik · 29/09/2013 08:12

I know a Spike, with a brother Buster. Not names I'd choose personally though.

DisAstrophe · 29/09/2013 08:09

It is generally a nickname I think that a boy is given or adopts in teens. When I was growing up the two young men called spike were so called because of their obsession with injecting drugs. Having said that for some reason I still like it. Can't you give another name and use spike as a nickname?

UriGeller · 29/09/2013 07:41

I love way out names and I'm all for people naming their kids delicious sounding words but I'm not keen on Spike because it sounds, well, too spiky to my ears. A bit unfriendly and sharp.

I like a little boy to be a Ted or a Joe. Spike seems to me like a little skinheaded tyke with an earring and snot.

(I'm pleading waaay too much imagination and not enough sleep).

RunningInFlipflops · 29/09/2013 07:24

Reminds me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer! Shock

Tea1Sugar · 29/09/2013 07:16

Just awful. Horrendous actually. I'm in SW London too op, but why should where you live should influence name choices?

KatyPutTheCuttleOn · 29/09/2013 07:14

Spike, as in Milligan? Or Spike, as in hedgehog?

That aside, it's OK but I wouldn't use it.

Lagoonablue · 29/09/2013 07:07

It is not a real name. Terrible.

Tiredtrout · 29/09/2013 06:26

I know a cat not an at

Tiredtrout · 29/09/2013 06:23

I know a at called spike, he's a bit of a bruiser

SatinSandals · 29/09/2013 05:42

Give him a sensible name and then choose a nickname.

Chottie · 29/09/2013 05:29

Sorry another no. IMO it sounds like a dog's name or a cartoon character.

Please reconsider - your DS will be answering to whatever name you chose for him for his whole life........

sleepingbeautiful · 29/09/2013 04:01

If you decide to go for it, I'd def give him a v ordinary middle name like James, so if he has trouble carrying it off as an adult then he gets a blend in option. If you and DH are quirky, confident sort of people then I'd be more in favour (nature and nuture working together for DS then) than if you are more run of the mill who just happened to have unusual name taste.

poppingin1 · 29/09/2013 03:12

Oh no.

I don't think peer group matters either.

If I heard someone calling 'Spike' I would assume they were calling out to their dog which they had unimaginatively named.

But if you like it, it is your choice.

DaleyBump · 29/09/2013 03:10

No shit. Not like An Actual Person, for REAL?! Thanks for the reminder...

Yes she has Hmm

BrianTheMole · 29/09/2013 03:05

You asked for opinions, no need to be snippy. Yes, it sounds like a dog's name.

She's not been snippy . Confused
