Ok...here is my list. DH has already poo-poo'd a few of them but I thought I'd post the whole list to give you a 'flavour' of the kind of names I like.

Cherry
Clementine
Calista
Luna
Misty
Persephone
Ramona
Aisling
Allegra
Claudia
Stella
Reina

Not even got round to thinking of middle names yet but suggestions welcome for first &/or middle names very very welcome. Smile

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
DawnOfTheDee · 27/09/2013 16:28

Quite like Delphine.

I think we must move in very different circles Eldritch...Grin

Cherry and Misty strike me as American type nicknames or possibly cat names? - in fact my Goddaughter's cats are Luna and Misty!I think they stand out from your list as odd.
The rest of your list are much of a muchness: only the odd one crosses class boundaries-mainly very posh.

Stella is what dd1 should have been if dh hadn't vetoed on account of the lager. It is my favourite name because it's strong and so many girls names are weak or fluffy. I have known Stellas from every kind of background and I think a Stella can be anything.

EldritchCleavage · 27/09/2013 16:18

I met a Kaliani once

[Kal-ee-ah-nee]. She was a fucking cow, but the name's nice.

charleslingus · 27/09/2013 16:16

Ottiline is nice if you like ine names, as is Delphine or Amandine.

nameberry is a great website for less predictable names, don't know if you know it?

DawnOfTheDee · 27/09/2013 16:11

Where are you people getting these names from?! I thought I pretty knew all the names... [grin}

Corinna is lovely. I do like Tabitha too but that's also the name of a cat we used to have....

Calliope reminds me of the word cantaloupe. No good reason for this but it does mean Calliope is off the table..

Not struck on Ondine/Undine

OP posts:
EldritchCleavage · 27/09/2013 16:03

What about Ondine/Undine?

Thumbwitch · 27/09/2013 15:46

What about Calliope?

LadyFlumpalot · 27/09/2013 15:45

What about Claudine? I really wanted Tabitha for DD but it was vetoed by DH. Sad

BlueChampagne · 27/09/2013 15:43

Vashti
Corinna

charleslingus · 27/09/2013 15:42

Ha, I read that thread, went to dig out mine and can't find them. Downloaded the lot!

Perdita is one I'd love to use, but it doesn't work with our names. Would love to meet a little Perdy.

DawnOfTheDee · 27/09/2013 15:33

Perdita was on the list but I keep changing my mind on it. I was reminded of it recently after re-reading Jilly Cooper books after a mn thread on them Blush

Love Allegra, Claudia and Stella. Calista is in the Chardonnay camp to my ears and Clementine tries too hard. The others are OK.

charleslingus · 27/09/2013 15:29

Love Talitha, also Persephone and Clementine are gorgeous.

Pandora, Este, Margot, Perdita are all beautiful too.

DawnOfTheDee · 27/09/2013 15:28

And yes I loved Anansi Boys! Haven't read his new one yet (Ocean at the End of the Lane)...might save that for when i'm on maternity leave Smile

OP posts:
DawnOfTheDee · 27/09/2013 15:25

Hmmm think i still prefer Clementine overall but will put it to DH (he wasn't sure about Clementine).

I LOVE Penelope but friends of ours have called their little girl that. Grrrrr....

OP posts:
EldritchCleavage · 27/09/2013 15:21

I'm on a roll today!

[Derail: Did you like Anansi Boys? I really liked that book, especially as I grew up with Anasi stories in West Africa.]

Ahem.

or the French version, Clemence.
Penelope?

curlew · 27/09/2013 15:14

How about Clemency, rather than Clementine? Fends off the -tyne or -teen debate, and any possible orange jokes? And I think it's nicer anyway....

DawnOfTheDee · 27/09/2013 15:09

Considered Marcella but it immediately makes me think of Marcellas Wallace in Pulp Fiction. I can do without that kind of association which is unfortunate as otherwise it's a nice name.

Thumbwitch · 27/09/2013 15:08

Cherry - not really
Clementine - nn Cleo? s'ok.
Calista - Callista by preference.
Luna - the risks of her being called Loony outweigh the Harry Potter connection, IMO, although in fact both could be bad.
Misty - great comic I used to have when I was young. I quite like this name too though
Persephone - yes, lovely classical Greek name, nn Penny
Ramona - s'ok
Aisling - very nice, but could have issues with pronunciation
Allegra - Very slow and awful Austin car. And defo not with Melody.
Claudia - s'ok
Stella - s'ok
Reina - not heard of this before but having seen the bit about the footballer I'd probably steer clear.

The only Lucasta I've come across is a rather unpleasant character in a Georgette Heyer novel. Other names in the same novel include (funnily!) Cherry, short for Charity; Oenone, Sophronia, and a couple I can't even remember they're so off the wall. Grin

UriGeller · 27/09/2013 15:07

Love Ramona

Love Calista but only if its pronounced CA-lista not ca-LIST-a.

Met a baby girl named Marcella recently. I love it.

DawnOfTheDee · 27/09/2013 15:06

I prefer Coraline to Caroline (am a big Neil Gaiman fan!)

Not keen on Fenella or Clarissa but I do like Jacinta. Will add that to the list!

OP posts:
EldritchCleavage · 27/09/2013 15:03

Jacinta
(C)Larissa
Fenella
Coralie
Caroline

DawnOfTheDee · 27/09/2013 15:02

Oooh I like Lucasta. I did like Jocasta but obviously wasn't esp keen on the Oedipal connotations!

I really do like 3 syllable names though...think they flow well with our surname.

OP posts:
WheresTheHoneyMummy · 27/09/2013 14:54

Love Melody. I like Claudia, Stella and Calista. Have you thought about Lucasta? Have only ever come across it once!

MerryMarigold · 27/09/2013 14:52

Claudia and Stella - cool.
