How will I ever choose? Literally cannot do it so could one of you choose for me? Please?

She probably came to a decision at some point in the last eight years....

KirstenBlest · 20/07/2021 17:03

The reason you can't choose is that none of them are right.

KirstenBlest · 20/07/2021 17:02

Elsa - nice ...but Frozen
Erin - faux Irish. Harsh sounding and nothingy
Eloise - I find it a bit of a mouthful. Some say or spell it as Elouise which is awful
Matilda - nice but overused. Tilda as a nn is not great, and Tilly a bit wet
Claudia - not keen. Claudine is nicer

I'd keep looking

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 20/07/2021 16:44

Ack, how did I not notice this was a zombie!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 20/07/2021 16:41

Claudia is my top choice at the moment for a DD - I love it, so classical, international and elegant but underused in the UK. If the "meaning" doesn't bother you it's gorgeous imo.

I don't dislike any of your other choices, apart from Martha which sounds dowdy to me, sorry. But Erin and Matilda are both pretty popular, and Eloise is also fairly well used thanks to the trend for El- names (so she could get nn Ellie?). Elsa is gorgeous imo but the Frozen thing doesn't seem to be going away yet, although a kid might like that?

For me of your favourites it would be Claudia, followed by Eloise, then finally popular Matilda.

blondie87 · 20/07/2021 15:49

Claudia and Eloise are both lovely!

SalsaLove · 20/07/2021 15:46

Only Martha. A beautiful classic.

DoodleBelle · 20/07/2021 15:42

I like Matilda best followed by Claudia then Eloise

Garfunkle · 20/07/2021 15:36

We had Eloise, Erin and Elise on our shortlist for youngest DD. When we saw her she was definitely an Erin. She loves her name and so do we.

Congratulations OP 💐

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 20/07/2021 15:31

I love Matilda. Strong and not sweet and cutest like many names popular at the moment. I like Tilda too. Dark greener has Matilda at 30th with 0.25% of babies named it at last stats which isn’t really very popular.

Also like Elsa.

I almost like Martha but Marth I dislike.

Cowbells · 20/07/2021 15:25

@Dylemma

Actually, think front-runners are Matilda, Claudia & Eloise.
Funnily enough I was going to say the best ones are Claudia, Eloise and Mathilda! (In that order.) But all of them lovely, classic names.
Theoldwoman · 20/07/2021 14:57

Erin followed by Claudia.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 20/07/2021 14:13

@Dylemma oooh come back and tell us what you chose!!

I hate an unresolved thread from 8 years ago Grin

I think a MN rule should be that the OP has to come back on any baby name thread and tell us what they picked

DramaAlpaca · 20/07/2021 14:10

Dammit! Got caught there. Bastard Zombies.

DotDotDotDotDot · 20/07/2021 14:09

ZOMBIE THREAD!!!!!

DramaAlpaca · 20/07/2021 14:08

I would call her Eloise Matilda.

I don't like Erin, Martha or Elsa at all.

I quite like Claudia but can't get past the meaning.

Tavannach · 20/07/2021 14:02

Erin.

Junipersky · 20/07/2021 13:54

I strongly like 3 and strongly dislike the other 3, but everyone has their own opinions so just go with the one that feels right for you.

ponywony · 20/07/2021 13:32

Eloise sounds a bit like cheese. Might get the nickname cheese Louise. Grin

GirlsTimesThree · 27/09/2013 20:42

All those were on our list for our Eloise! She's 19 now and strong, single minded, bright and funny. She's always been Eloise, never an Ellie - that was saved for all the Ella's and Eleanor's she was at school with.

They're all lovely names which will grow with your DD. Lucky you, I wish I was doing it all again!

allyfe · 27/09/2013 19:57

I love Eloise. I knew one as a child, but she was called Ellie by her friends. I also like Martha. I don't like Claudia and Matilda I love but it is very popular. Eloise not nicknamed to Ellie is the best :D

SugarMiceInTheRain · 27/09/2013 16:35

Martha is my favourite. Elsa second place. I used to love Eloise, but little Ellies seem to be ubiquitous, so I've gone off it. Somehow not a big fan of Erin and Claudia, and Matilda (nn Tilly) is getting too popular now :(

PeteCampbellsRecedingHairline · 27/09/2013 16:32

Elsa is the name of the group at DS1's school to talk about their feelings and any issues. I don't know if that is common across other schools?

I like Claudia.

elcranko · 27/09/2013 16:29

I love all of them... except Claudia!

Martha and Matilda are my favourites.

mathanxiety · 27/09/2013 00:35

Elsa or Matilda. Both have a nice Nordic ring to them.
I like the NN Tilda for Matilda, and I don't think Elsa needs one - it's short and elegant and not a bit cutesy.

Martha makes me think of hens and feathers and clucking for some reason.
Erin I don't really like. It says Irish-American to me. And yyy to packet soup. Reminds me of rainy Saturdays of my youth in Dublin.
Eloise is an excuse to use the nn Ellie, which is everywhere. I prefer good old 70s style Louise.
Claudia sounds harsh to my ear.
