Katherine or Catherine?

I prefer Katherine as you can have Katie/Kate but several friends prefer Catherine as that is the correct spelling. Confused

k is original and best! Grin

SuffolkLatch · 24/09/2013 20:03

I LOVE Kate and Kitty, not so keen on Katie.

JacqueslePeacock · 24/09/2013 20:03

With a K. Especially if you already have a DD with a C!

SuffolkLatch · 24/09/2013 20:02

KathArine - think it looks so much nicer.

AndWhenYouGetThere · 24/09/2013 20:01

I prefer the K - then you get Kitty and Kate more naturally.

Another vote for Katharine and no bias here either Grin

Bowlersarm · 24/09/2013 19:58

My dd is Katharine with a K and A like Hepburn :-) we call her Katy

badtime · 24/09/2013 19:53

I prefer the K.

Do people genuinely say that either is the 'correct' spelling?

Vintageclock · 24/09/2013 16:27

Katherine.

MrsMongoose · 24/09/2013 00:23

Kate Middleton is Catherine with a C. You can still use the nickname Kate.

FrameyMcFrame · 23/09/2013 22:37

Kate Middleton is Catherine with a C too!

KatOD · 23/09/2013 22:37

Another Kathryn vote here

FrameyMcFrame · 23/09/2013 22:35

Catherine as in the Saint and the Queen. And my dear sister.

OhDearNigel · 23/09/2013 22:29

Neither

Katharine is quite clearly the superior version. not remotely biased at all

ShadowSummer · 23/09/2013 22:27

I prefer Katherine with a K.

elcranko · 23/09/2013 21:10

Both are nice but I prefer Catherine just slightly more!

redrubyshoes · 23/09/2013 21:10

DD is Charlotte so it keeps it easier in the future when they get letters posted to them.

I think Katherine to keep it simple as Kate/Katie/Kitty.

Katherine/Catherine: lovely name! Seeing them both 'in print' I tend to agree that Catherine looks softer. I know a Cate with a C - had forgotten about the gorgeous Cate Blanchett....

Having said all that - you should go with what you prefer! Smile

CaptainSweatPants · 23/09/2013 18:54

I think Kathryn is classier

BikeRunSki · 23/09/2013 18:53

Kathryn

Wigeon · 23/09/2013 18:49

Neither is the "correct" spelling. It's closer to the original Greek name to spell it with a K, but it's been completely anglicised and spelt with a C. And unless you are using the Greek alphabet, I don't think you can argue that K is more "correct" than C.

Go for which you prefer! And if you plan to call her Katie / Kate as a NN then I'd go with K. Catherine also has Cate, Cath, Cathy, Cat...Personally I prefer Catherine as I think it looks slightly softer than with a K. Either way, she will have to spell it the whole blimming time ("yes, Catherine with a C and an e in the middle").

buttercrumble · 23/09/2013 18:46

Catherine Smile
