The problem is my Dad is John...and whist I love my dear old pa. I don't really want to name my son after him, just quite like Johnny Hmm however I will let my dad think this is the case as that might be a bit mean Wink

After suggesting Johnny, DH now not too sure. And breath....

squoosh so wise!

We are taking about it, however like many things it would be easier if DH just kept his nose out Grin

Yes but she says he'll be Johnny day to day, sounds like John will just be for birth certs and official forms.

bananamummy · 19/09/2013 22:08

But the op said earlier that it will be most likely John as full name and so I assumed Johnnie/Johnny/Jonnie are nickname options.

squoosh · 19/09/2013 22:00

I think the OP is planning to call her son Johnny/Johnnie from birth so it's not 'just a nickname', it's the child's name.

bananamummy · 19/09/2013 21:53

I prefer John.

Nicknames could include
Johhnie (as in Johnnie Boden)
Jonny (as in Jonny Wilkinson)
Johnny (as in Johnny Cash)

but it really doesn't matter, it's just a nickname.

nightcircus · 19/09/2013 21:46

Y

Snazzyenjoyingsummer · 19/09/2013 21:27

Y not IE.

elcranko · 19/09/2013 21:26

Y

AlansCatalanCat · 19/09/2013 20:47

Also, John is a far superior name compared to Jonathan.

John is timeless, Jonathan is very 1972-1984.

squoosh · 19/09/2013 19:48

Johnny.

Johnny Cash
Johnny Depp
Johnny Marr

Jonny makes me squirm, it looks so very, very wrong.

fanjodisfunction · 19/09/2013 19:36

I'll answer for you, I think with a Y, IE looks more girlie to me.

bundaberg · 19/09/2013 19:36

Johnny.

it just looks nicer

tumbletumble · 19/09/2013 19:32

I like Jonny

daughterofafarmer · 19/09/2013 19:13

Think I prefer the H in the spelling! God it's a minefield Wink

It doesn't matter how you spell a nickname. I was only saying what I'd expect it to look like.

My nickname can be spelt (at least) 4 ways, and I've used them all at different times.

daughterofafarmer · 19/09/2013 19:02

But Jonathan isn't spelt with 2 'H' VB hence Jonny for Jonathan.

daughterofafarmer · 19/09/2013 18:58

Most like to be John however that's my Dad's name so would prefer Johnny day to day. Jonny would be for Jonathan yes? Confused

OP posts:
VBisme · 19/09/2013 18:57

I'd go for Johnny as a nickname for Johnathon rather than Johnnie.

But he'll spell it however he likes when he's older.

Rowanred · 19/09/2013 18:56

The "h" just looks wrong to me. I would go with Jonny and John or Jonathon on bc!

GwendolineMaryLacey · 19/09/2013 18:53

Johnny. :)

Far enough old but that's not what I asked! For all you know he may very well be called John or Jonathan Smile
