Underused classic or terrible 80s middle name?

I can't stop thinking about this but cant decide if it is pregnancy hormones or genuine like?

Only know one Maria. I don't consider it an 80s name.

ArabellaBeaumaris · 16/09/2013 21:43

I've remembered why we didn't use it second one round - we would have had two of Columbus's ships names then. I do love it though.

Saffyz · 16/09/2013 18:22

It's a very nice name and I don't know of any young Marias. Classic and underused.

FingersCrossedLegsNot · 16/09/2013 18:18

Nadiawadia, I just remember a classmate growing up constantly being teased with it. It's just an association I have.....silly as it is!

There is nothing wrong with the name as such, but to me it's blah.

InkleWinkle · 16/09/2013 18:17

My DD goes to school with a Maria age 7.

I think it's a lovely name.

Frikadellen · 16/09/2013 18:09

I like it a classic imo

PoppyAmex · 16/09/2013 17:26

DD is Maria.

Very international name, which was important for us as a multicultural family, traditional name of saints and queens in Europe. Doesn't get more classic .

brightonbythesea · 16/09/2013 14:40

lovely and timeless. If I ever have another girl it will be a definite contender.

beela · 16/09/2013 14:05

I know a 3 yr old Maria.

I think it's a lovely name, it has the classic ring of so many popular names these days, yet it's not overused.

squoosh · 16/09/2013 10:29

I don't think it's an 80s name at all. It's beautiful and much, much better than weedy Marie.

ArabellaBeaumaris · 16/09/2013 10:06

Is it 80s? I was born in early 80s & have never had a Maria contemporary.

flopsy1974 · 16/09/2013 08:58

Gorgeous name. Timeless classic in my opinión Smile

Lottiesmama312 · 16/09/2013 05:41

Lovely name! My sister is a Maria and my middle name is Marie! Italian family...... Grin

NadiaWadia · 16/09/2013 05:26

FingersCrossedLegsNot - don't you think that's a bit silly though? I mean, Maria doesn't even rhyme with the word you just mentioned (which I can't spell either!). You might as well say that about any name ended in 'ia', really, and there are a lot.

SmallTorch · 16/09/2013 02:28

I like it. :)

DizzyPurple · 16/09/2013 02:21

It's lovely. My DD's middle name is Mary after her Grandma but I often say Maria as I think it is much prettier. It flows better. I do like names ending in 'A'

FingersCrossedLegsNot · 16/09/2013 02:06

Some will call it classic and timeless, I just think it is unremarkable. Also in my head I always think Maria diahorrea sp?

LeoandBoosmum · 16/09/2013 01:49

My mum is called Maria. I think it's a beautiful, timeless name. I've been wondering if it'll ever make a comeback since it's so pretty!

NadiaWadia · 16/09/2013 00:59

Wouldn't have thought it particularly 80s, more timeless. It's lovely. Plus it has the bonus of at least 3 songs you'll be able to sing to your DD (Maria from West Side Story, the song from Sound of Music, and the Blondie song).

CruCru · 15/09/2013 23:05

Everyone can spell it and pronounce it. It's nice.

NotYoMomma · 15/09/2013 22:04

Lovely, feminine and timeless

Annunziata · 15/09/2013 22:04

Beautiful!

bridgetsmum · 15/09/2013 22:03

I think it's a beautiful name for a beautiful person (my name may be Maria) GrinGrinGrin

Tweediewalker · 15/09/2013 22:01

I think it is a beautiful name that will come back but like you say it was overused. As a child I would tell people my name was Maria... Which it was not lol but I loved it!
