What do you think about Georgia?

We've picked Georgia. At first I felt it was a strong but feminine name but now I'm worried its too masculine.

What does the name suggest to you?

i LOVE it. Was thinking today if i ever had another i'd go for Georgia. Love NN georgie or george (little women!)

My 2 year old is Georgie. NN George.
But everybody assumes it is short for Georgia.

I like it, as someone else said strong but still feminine. When she gets to a certain age, she and/or her friends will choose what she gets called, so be sure you like Georgie, George and Gee etc

I like it but it is very popular. I know and know of quite a few. Still love Georgie for a baby girl though, seriously considered it.

Carrottopper, the same class does have a Florence, and an India, i believe.

I know of a 6 year old who is known as Georgie. (I'm not sure if it's short for Georgina or Georgia.) I really like Georgie.

Not keen - it just reminds me of the US state. It was also v. popular a few years ago round here (South). Prefer Georgina, which I think is classy.

I've got to day before this thread I've never heard a bad one and I started a 'Georgia' thread last year all very positive. It might be a southern thing because in the midlands and north its a non issue not overly popular and is seen as a nice name not common in any sense :)

It's the top runner for us! It is neither common (well used) nor common (class related) where I live. However I am aware of the connotations on the name and it does niggle me! Watch this space...

Lovely. Was on my list for dd2. I'm in the south east and have never heard it hollered like that. Take no notice.

I think Georgia is more like a name than a place name. I'd put it in the same category as Florence rather than Paris, Brooklyn and Arizona!

I know someone called Arizona and someone called Dallas. They should join that class too.

DS tells me that his class currently has an Atlanta and a Georgia.

For me it has a real 1990s feel to it...not sure if that's a good thing. Also, when I hear the name, the caterwauling of Michael Bolton's 'Georgia' fills my head! Definitely not a good thing... So, it's a no from me, sorry.

Georgia is indeed strong and feminine, if that is what you are after it is a great choice.
Fwiw I love it, I have a dd with the same kind of name.

It is regional.

It's a beautiful name, however with a strong SE London accent it is not pronounced beautifully imho.

When we told my husband's aunt what we planned to call my ds she laughed and told us not to be so ridiculous. Did we care? Did we heck!Grin

I suppose it's a regional thing then. I'm a teacher and after 12 years have never come across a Georgia and I'm in the north

I agree with snoot,I said as much at the top of the thread. It is true of the south east. It doesn't mean it's not a beautiful name. And if Katie Hopkins said the same then clearly she's spent some time in SE LondonWink
