A sibling for Byron?

It took us a ridiculous amount of time to agree on Byron's name. DH has....eclectic taste name wise. So now number 2 is cooking and I am flummoxed.
So far we have:
Atticus (Byron was very nearly called this but I've gone off it a bit)
Caspian - we both like but don't love this.
Tiberius - DH favourite.
Aegeaus - Dh's other suggestion.

Girl wise we have only 1 name we can agree on:
Ariadne.

And that's it, we're at a veto impasse.
Help please?

Ah, should'be read the thread first! I'll suggest Hamish then (another cat, currently trying to break into my house).

Elise?

StormyBrid · 12/09/2013 17:52

I'd go for Shelley if it's a girl, but that's mainly because those were the names of my cats when I was a kid.

Byron & Gulliver.
Byron & Mycroft.
Byron & Jupiter.

I hate to say this, but Rhianna goes well with Byron. At least I haven't spelt it the same way as the sleb!
Or Rhona/Rhonda.
Good strong name for a girl - Juno.

"It's funny flogging but IME you are way off the mark, having a more usual, therefore more MEMORABLE name is actually a bonus in life, yes if course you will get the narrow minded, too much time on there hands and can't mind there own business odd pee takers, but if a DC is brought up to have good self esteem, they will take that for what it is & not be bothered by it in the long term.

Honestly, if you are interviewing a hundred applicants, amongst them many Janes & other common names, the odds are, that the one that sticks in your mind the most will be the only one with that particular unusual name"

I absolutely agree with you. We sometimes forget WHY we name a person. It is to IDENTIFY them. Here in London, people seem to be becoming more open minded about names, but it sounds like a few mumsnetters have a problem with less popular names.

Love all your names OP, with the exception of Aegeaus. I know boys named Atticus and Caspian and both are lovely, cool teenagers now. I love their names and agree that they are more memorable than, say Harry or Charlie (simply because I know loads of those and so don't associate with a specific person anymore).

They are great thank you.

Hebe is really starting to appeal. We have a fairly long surname so a short first name would fit better too I think?

He is more than a bit obsessed with Russian history, particularly the communist era. I like to think he was teasing a bit but I suspect if I'd said yes to it he would've of been pretty happy. He is a very lovely man and a good husband father. He just, is very different in his thought processes to most people.

Dawson brings the same memory to mind for me too.

Seren is as popular as Isabel/Isabella's here. Lots and lots and lots of them.

I do appreciate that our tastes are a little different. That doesn't make it ok for certain people to be so rude and narrow minded. If you have nothing positive to add to the suggestions then please do take yourself and your judgements elsewhere.

Not the names flogging but the sentiment that I picked up on, ie: stick with more common names over the unusual (though Peter & Jane are unusual these days Grin )

Stalin is of course a step too far, but it isn't IMHO actually an awful name, just bad associations, akin to calling a DC Hitler.

Inkspellme · 12/09/2013 13:28

StJohn ( usually pronounced sinjin by anyone I met with it)

Xavier

can't think of any girls....

LondonMother · 12/09/2013 13:27

Darwin has wonderful associations. Dawson - all I can think of is Les Dawson, and most of you are probably too young to remember him.

I would be most interested to know why your DH suggested Stalin, Discobiscuits. Was he not even a tiny bit bothered by the idea of having a son called by the same name as one of the most notorious mass murderers in world history? Presumably he'd have ruled out Adolf or Hitler, so why consider Stalin?

If he liked Xerxes, what about Cyrus or Darius?

JacqueslePeacock · 12/09/2013 13:18

Erasmus. I love it but would never dare use it.

Floggingmolly · 12/09/2013 13:13
