DP is of Indian descent, born and bred in London and goes by an English nickname.
We don't know the gender of the baby but he thinks it's going to be a boy Hmm anyway there are plenty of nice sounding/meaning girl's names but I don't like ANY of the boy names he's suggested... I.e. Raj, Lakshmann...
This is second baby (first dd with Caucasian partner and has an 'english' name).
also want a name where people don't say "sorry, what?!" when we say his/her name...
Please help!! Confused

As well as the two you've already said are front runners I must second the poster who suggested Rohan.

I think all three are lovely.

Agree Rohan lovely.

Assume Hindu not Muslim? Lots of lovely Muslim names too, including Adam.

Rohan? Sonny/Suni? And my sister is a Kiren (though has given up correcting pronunciation from Kieran..)

mrsOak there are indeed many Jade Goody types round these parts, very 'white majority'... every single child at dd's last school was white British Shock

Given that people from the Indian subcontinent have been making their lives in this country for 50-odd years now I can't imagine where you'd live where the reaction to an Indian name would be ' "sorry, what?!" when we say his/her name...'. Unless your neighbours are channelling Jade Goody and struggle with as simple a name as Shilpa.

Kiran is a lovely name, I know a boy (not of Indian descent) with it, pronounced the same as Keiran.

Xiaoxiong · 11/09/2013 15:06

We have friends with similar heritage and their sons are Devin and Rohan, which are lovely and I believe are both Hindi/Sanskrit origin names.

TheHouseofMirth · 11/09/2013 14:53

We have a Tarran, chosen because it is a Welsh name, but it also turns out it is Indian too!

lovelilies · 11/09/2013 14:51

Suggested Kiran to DP and he approves... says it's a good Indian name Grin keep them coming though, the more the merrier!
